Using bathroom scales is dreaded by many people, especially if you have overindulged in recent days. However, they do provide a great insight into your overall health as long as they are accurate and reliable.
That is where we come in, we have compiled our list of the top 10 most accurate bathroom scales that will help you on your weight loss or weight gain journey. We have also included a number of body composition scales which measure more than just your body weight, although do take their readings with a pinch of salt as they are more of an estimate.
It is worth noting that body weight naturally fluctuates over the course of a day. People tend to be lighter in the mornings and at their heaviest in the middle of the day. Therefore, to make the readings scales as accurate as possible we recommend you weigh yourself first thing in the morning before you have eaten.
Most Accurate Bathroom Scales of 2019
1. EatSmart Precision Plus
As one of the most popular models on amazon with over 14,000 reviews averaging at 4.2 stars out of 5. It is no surprise that the EatSmart Precision Plus bathroom scale is our top choice.
This device is highly accurate and easy to use with its auto on/off function. With the largest platform out of the models in our top 10 measuring in at 15” wide x 13” long, the precision plus is comfortable to stand on. In addition, it comes with a large 4.3” backlight display that is easy to read while stood on the scales.
Accurate to 0.2lbs it also has an auto calibrate feature to ensures it stays highly accurate. With a maximum capacity of 440lbs these scales will be able to accommodate all users easily.
In addition, EatSmart are proud of their products and provide excellent customer service. If you are not 100% happy with your purchase, they will do everything they can to resolve any issues and this is shown with their impressive 2-year guarantee.
2. Etekcity Digital Body Weight Bathroom Scale
On first impressions you will notice the clean stylish design of the Etekcity bathroom scales. Equipped with a backlit screen, 1-year warranty, Bluetooth connectivity, auto on/off and very accurate to 0.2lbs. It is easy to see why this scale is the current best seller on amazon with over 16,000 reviews averaging 4.2/5.
Simply step on the scales and they will automatically turn on and show your weight on the clear backlight LCD display. In addition, you can have the weight automatically transmitted via bluetooth to your smart phone and onto your fitness app of choice. There is also a body tape measure included which will come in useful for ensuring you are losing weight in the right areas.
In total, these scales can accommodate users up to a maximum weight of 400lbs, so there will be no need to worry when stepping on.
Overall, these scales get the job done well and come with a very reasonable price tag of about $20 which is why they come in a respectable second place.
3. EatSmart Precision CalPal
Proof of how highly we regard EatSmart’s products, they have another scale in our top 10.
Slightly smaller than the Precision Plus, the CalPal is 12.5” x 12.5” and comes with a 3.7” backlight LCD display which is clear and easy to read.
Besides weighing your body weight, the CalPal also calculates your Body Mass Index (BMI) and calorie intake. The calorie intake is the number of calories you need to consume each day to maintain your current weight, before carrying out any activity. However, this reading is just an estimate and not very accurate.
Even with these extra features the CalPal costs slightly less than the Precision Plus and is a good choice if you are looking for affordable accurate weighing scales. Also included is the 2-year EatSmart guarantee which we highly recommend.
4. Taylor glass CalMax
If you are looking for a simple, accurate weighing scale that is affordable. Then the Taylor Glass CalMax might be the one for you.
It lacks a backlight display which can make the 3.1” LCD display slightly more difficult to see if your bathroom is not well lit. However, it does also estimate the users BMI and displays a calorie goal. Although I would ignore those numbers as they aren’t very useful.
Another slight downside is that the scales use lithium ion batteries (CR2032). This causes an inconvenience when it comes to changing the batteries as people don’t often have these batteries lying around the house.
Nonetheless, the scales are very accurate and can support users up to a weight of 440lbs.
5. Weight gurus bluetooth smart connected body fat scale
Possibly one of the most well-known producers of smart scales, Weight Gurus scale comes with Bluetooth connectivity. This allows users to synchronise their measurements with a wide variety of fitness apps such as MyFitnessPal, FitBit, Weight Gurus and many more. This makes it quick and easy to monitor your progress and make any adjustments if you need to.
In addition to measuring your weight, this scale also measures your BMI, body fat percentage, water weight and bone mass. While the accuracy is sometimes questionable on some of the more advanced metrics such as body fat percentage, it does still provide a good estimate and will show you improvements.
The sleek stylish design looks great in any bathroom and comes with an easy to read backlight display.
The only downside to this model is that if a guest at your home wishes to use the scales and weighs within 10lbs of your weight it will assume that it is you and store the data on your profile. This can be frustrating at times and would be great if there was a guest user feature.
Nonetheless, the Weight Gurus Bluetooth Smart body fat scale is a great scale and is made in coordination with the Greater Good. The Greater Good is when a company only uses suppliers who ensure the rights and safety of their employees.
6. Rivio Digital Body Weight Bathroom Scale
With a similar design to the popular Etekcity model we saw earlier, the Rivio body weight scales are aesthetically pleasing and doesn’t get the water marks you tend to get with clear glass models. The black backlight display with white numbers is easy to read and on the slightly smaller 11.8”x11.8” platform which is still comfortable to stand on.
In addition, these scales can be altered to display the user’s weight in lbs, kg or stone. They also come with an auto calibration feature to ensure they stay accurate to within 0.2lbs.
Simple to set up, you just need to remove the scales from the packaging and they are ready to be used. They also come with a 1-year warranty and can support a maximum user weight of 440lbs.
In conclusion, the Rivio Digital Body Weight Bathroom Scales are simple, affordable and accurate.
7. Omron body composition scale
One of the most advanced models in our top 10, the Omron body composition scale measures your, weight, BMI, body fat percentage, skeletal muscle, resting metabolism, visceral fat and body age.
Viscal fat, is the fat that surrounds your vital organs. Having too much viscal fat can lead to high cholesterol and other serious health issues such as heart disease. Although I would question the accuracy of the reading, it would be motivating to see the viscal fat results improve along your fitness journey.
Unlike any other scales that use bioelectrical impedance in our top 10, the Omron has hand held sensors attached to a retractable cord to improve its accuracy. While this doesn’t make this the most aesthetically pleasing model in our list, it does appear to be more accurate than the other similar models.
A couple of minor downsides are that you can only have 4 separate user profiles and it only tracks information for up to 180 days, with no method of exporting the data. Also, the maximum user weight is slightly lower compared to the competition at 330lbs. Nonetheless, it will still be more than enough for most users.
However, if you are looking for a reasonably accurate body composition scale then Omron is a good choice and will give you a good guide to your overall health improvements at a reasonable price.
8. Inevit Body-Analyzer Scale
Able to track weight, body fat percentage, total body water, muscle mass percentage, bone mass and BMR. It is no surprise that the Inevit Body-Analyzer scales cost slightly more than the previous body weight scales at just under $50.
However, it can store up to 10 unique user profiles and the readings appear to be relatively accurate. Although the information is displayed on a large LCD display, it does look very cluttered with the wide range of different readings it tries to display all at once.
Measuring in at 12.3” x 12.3” it is a comfortable to use and has a maximum user weight of 400lbs.
Despite the slightly higher price, these scales do a good job of tracking a variety of different measurements. Also, Inevit have included a 5-year warranty which is the longest warranty out of any model in our top 10.
9. Tanita BC554
Tanita are known as “The Body Fat Experts” for producing some of the best body composition scales on the market. They also produce a number of professional medical grade units. However, today we are looking at the BC554 for home use.
Despite being the most expensive model in our top 10 costing about $150 it does have a lot to offer. The BC554 can measure your weight, body fat, muscle mass, body water percentage, BMR, metabolic age, visceral fat and even rates your physique.
However, there are a few minor drawbacks such as the display has no backlight making it slightly more difficult to see. Also, there is no Bluetooth or wifi connectivity to export your data.
Nonetheless, the scales do appear to pretty accurate and you could always look at even more expensive models such as the Tanita RD-901 which does fix some of the issues with the BD-554. Despite the higher price tag, you do get a good 3-year warranty which does help to ease the mind when spending a bit more.
Consequently, with its high price tag we feel you would get more for your money with the Omron model earlier. But if accuracy is the most important factor for you then Tanita would the be company of choice.
10. Fitbit aria wifi smart scale
Fitbit are well known for their activity tracker, so we were excited to see what the Fitbit Aria Smart Scale had to offer. Able to track your weight, lean mass, body fat percentage and BMI this scale has a lot to offer while also looking great with its stylish design.
The setup process is quite complicated and time consuming as you have to download software on your computer or smart phone and connect it to your wifi. Once up and running, it can store up to eight different users’ information and comes with a 1-year free from defects warranty or 2-years if you live in the European economic area.
Although the body weight measurement did appear to be accurate, a number of the other readings appeared to be worryingly inaccurate at times. Another drawback is the price. Costing considerably more than most other models in our top 10 just under $100 is expensive for a scale that only accurately measures your weight.
As a result of its few drawbacks and high price we recommend that you avoid this model unless you really want to support Fitbit.
