For their 50th anniversary, AMD released the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X processor. It’s an 8-core processor that is one of the most powerful gaming processors ever manufactured.
However, to make the most of its power you are going to need the right motherboard.
Choosing a motherboard can be challenging; there is a lot more to deciding upon a motherboard than just ensuring that it is compatible with the processor you have chosen.
You have to make sure it supports the amount of RAM appropriate for your new processor and that it allows for cooling systems to be installed for regular or overclocking.
Luckily, there are several great motherboards out there that will do the job. First we’re going to take a look at the best motherboard for Ryzen 7 2700X on the market right now and then we’ll review some of the other top Ryzen 7 2700x motherboards depending on your own objectives.
Update: We now have a selection of motherboards for the Ryzen 7 3700x.
Best Motherboards for Ryzen 7 2700x
Best Motherboard for Ryzen 7 2700x
This is definitely the best motherboard available right now you can get for the Ryzen 7 2700X
ASUS ROG X470 Crosshair VII Hero
- Pricey but worth every penny.
- Packed full of features including enthusiast features.
- Extremely powerful performance.
- Consistent performance and connectivity.
- Includes limited RGB LED lighting.
There is no doubt that this is one of the most expensive motherboards on the list. But that’s because of all of the extra features that come with it.
For example, lots of buttons for making very precise adjustments and a RGB LED lighting.
The motherboard also supports multiple graphics cards as well as much memory as you could want and includes extremely high-quality onboard audio, networking and more.
All the hardware that comes with this motherboard is of the highest quality and it is the perfect accessory for the powerful AMD processor.
In addition, it comes with nine USB 3.1 ports, Nvidia high-bandwidth SLI bridge and a smart wireless dongle. Plenty of head-to-head testing that shows that this motherboard can compete with any of the other top rated motherboards out there.
For those who want to save a little money and don’t need enthusiasts bells and whistles there are probably better options on this list.
Best Gaming Motherboard for Ryzen 7 2700x
It is clear that the designers of this motherboard were after one thing when they created it – excellence in gaming
ASRock Fatal1ty X470 Gaming K4
- Really incredible gaming speed.
- Lots of PCI-E X1 slots.
- An incredible price tag for so many extra bells & whistles.
This motherboard is terrific in most respects, it performs amazingly well, with your games running smoother than just about any other motherboard.
However, there are a few things that should get your attention and make you evaluate this motherboard carefully.
For one thing, it doesn’t have a second PCI-E x16 slot like most of the other motherboards on this list. Plus, the other M.2 slot seems to run really slow in comparison with the first.
Although you have two, it’s almost like having just a single M.2. However, USB connectivity works just fine, it comes with creative Sound Blaster audio and overall it is an excellent mid-range motherboard.
There are a few things that could be improved, and a few things that it is lacking. If those are important to you than you may want to consider one of the other options that we have reviewed here.
Best Budget Gaming Motherboard for Ryzen 7 2700x
Typical performance for productivity but amazing performance for gaming
ASUS ROG Strix X470-F Gaming
- Smart motherboard design.
- Less expensive than some comparable rivals.
- However, lacking enthusiast features and does not contain audio shielding.
This motherboard is a slightly less impressive version of the ASROCK X470 Taichi except when it comes to gaming.
If you are building a rig specifically for gaming, then you definitely want to consider this motherboard. That’s because it performs just as well as any of the other motherboards on this list when it comes to gaming but with a reduced price tag.
For other applications, it might be lacking just a little bit, but probably not enough for you to notice.
It was inconsistent and some peripheral benchmarks, and you don’t get all the enthusiast features that you get with the previous model that we reviewed. But what you do get is every single mainstream feature like plenty of rapid memory support, dual graphic capabilities three different PCI-E-X1 slots and lots of LED lighting to make your rig look great.

It also has two M.2 slots, plenty of room for setting up your own cooling system, better audio networking than many of the others listed here and a lot more.
What you do not get is included wireless networking. However, you can spend a few more dollars for an upgraded motherboard if you need that.
Best Budget Motherboard for Ryzen 7 2700x
Specifications are good, benchmark tests were excellent and all in all it is a really good motherboard
GIGABYTE B450 Aorus Elite
- Lots of lighting options.
- Better performance than expected for a mid-range motherboard.
- Excellent port selection and slots.
- More expensive than some of the other mid-range models.
This is another Gigabyte entry and it has a lot of things that you will love.
You get excellent port and slot selection, a solid performance at a decent price, although it is more expensive than you would expect from a midrange model.
In fact, this is probably one of the most expensive midrange models out there. The main reason for that is that it has a really excellent design.
It’s got extremely large heatsinks, lots of RGB LEDs, Wi-Fi and a ton of different lighting options.
In addition, it comes with some extra features that sort of make it worth the price.
Even though this has a fairly large price tag, it is nothing compared to the X470 Aorus model. Which only has a few additional features but definitely has a major increase in the price for a midrange model.
Best Well Rounded Motherboard for Ryzen 7 2700x
A Well-rounded motherboard with consistent performance across the board.
ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate
- Nothing remarkable about this board for gaming.
- Tons of storage options.
- Solid core specifications and excellent memory support.
ASROCK has the next motherboard on the list as well. This is basically an upgraded version of the previous review, and it does have a few more features and bells and whistles that make the extra cost worth it.
It also has an incredible design with two full speed M.2 connectors, lots of PCI-E x16 slots so that you can hook up your dual graphics cards, all the memory support you could want and a whole lot more.
In addition, there is massive support for cooling systems with fan connectors, RGB LEDs and plenty of USB connectivity.
The only thing you can really say about this motherboard that might be critical is that it performs well across the entire board but doesn’t specifically stand out when it comes to gaming.
That doesn’t mean that your gaming is going to suffer; far from it. But it works just as well with general computing.
Best Looking Motherboard for Ryzen 7 2700x
This is the motherboard you pull out when company comes over
MSI X470 Gaming PRO Carbon
- More features than you would expect for the price and build.
- Excellent price in comparison with comparable motherboards on this list.
- Plenty of RGB LED support.
- Full range of features including some enthusiast features.
- Created specifically for gaming.
MSI makes the next motherboard on the list and we’re going to review. While this was created specifically for gaming, it really doesn’t perform as well as you would expect it to.
However, there are plenty of other things about this motherboard that make it worth the cost. But if you’re buying a motherboard specifically for the Ryzen 7 to use with high-end gaming then you might want to skip this one. There are better motherboards on this list that are the same price and have basically the same features.
In addition, there are only two PCI-E slots. Nonetheless, if you are using this for productivity or work, there is no doubt that this motherboard is made for performance.
The way that it handles applications is extremely impressive, but what you appear to be really paying for is the look of the motherboard which is, frankly, pretty amazing.
Still, unless you regularly have people checking out your PC and judging you based upon the aesthetics. You might want to choose a different motherboard.
Best Mini ITX Motherboard for Ryzen 7 2700x
Amazing performance for a budget price and a compact design
MSI B450I Gaming Plus AC
- Single full-length PCI-E slot but no second slot.
- Really good performance in gaming and decent performance overall.
Finally, this budget option offers you an amazing price and a compact design that will fit a mini ITX case.
Although you are not going to get all the expensive features that you will find with the high-end motherboards. You are going to get an amazing price for a motherboard that will support the AMD Ryzen 7 2700x.
While this does offer overclocking, it is going to tax out your motherboard components, so you may want to reconsider and if you really need it.
If you really need overclocking for gaming, then you may want to go with a different motherboard. This one is specifically designed for those on a budget that really want to have the latest CPU but not necessarily push their system to its very limits.
It comes with four SATA ports, a single M.2 slot that will support PCI-E 3.0 x4 and a decent cooling system configuration. This will allow you to set up a cooling system around the motherboard that should maintain gaming integrity.
The price is just amazing though, especially for a motherboard that will support the standard Ryzen. Even though it is a compact board, most users will not notice the lacking components.
