Default Using Yellowsn0w with original provider

I have a Rogers locked phone using it with a rogers sim card. I also have an ATT sim card because i travel to the US a lot and use it there. So my question is, do i update my phone to 2.2 or restore it? whats the different (sorry i'm sure its a stupid question but i dunno). Also since i'm using it with rogers am i supposed to restore it, then activate it before i quickpwn it? or should i update it to 2.2 unplug it and then use quickpwn right away (without activation)?

    Thanks for all your help

You can ether update or restore the main difference is updating doesn't remove stored data (except 3rd Party stuff) & restoring does.

However restoring is a good way to making sure you have a fresh install & don't bring any bugs from your old firmware.

For Activation I always let itunes do it & the run Quickpwn to jailbreak afterward.

I have a Rogers-locked phone with a Rogers SIM and unless I let iTunes activate the phone, I can't get signal at all. It stays with 5 "empty" bar and no carrier name appears. QuickPwn hacktivation doesn't seem to work for me... which always surprised me. I can get to the home screen but the carrier doesn't pick up signal. Kinda reminds me of brick-mode in the 1.1.x firmwares... is there a bricktool for 2.x?

I haven't tried unlocking yet, but I wonder if the main OS will complain about the SIM change despite the baseband accepting it. Let us know your results with an iTunes activation.
