What do the different switches mean?

-q = quick
-l = long

What about the -c -r -a?

Followed a few tutorials, one recommended to use switch -C then -R then -A then -Q to get a successful unlock, although this has worked for me and others, I would like to know what the switches refer to in the program.

-c Just check for compatibility
-r Just reset the baseband
-a Use alternate method (only for some SIM cards)
