Please help! I'm too blonde!

Hi everyone!
Ok, before I begin, I need to give a disclaimer: I truly am blonde when it comes to the iPhone, yellowsnOw, unlocking, jailbreaking, Cydia, versions, etc, etc. I want to buy the phone soon (there's an auction on eBay for a legally unlocked phone ending really soon!) but I don't know which way to go:confused::

-Pay an extra $300 for a legally unlocked phone from Apple - but in this case, I still don't know if the phone will lock up again/get screwed up if I jailbreak it...

-Buy a phone here in TO, locked to Rogers (my provider) then get it unlocked and jailbroken (but then - where? I definetely want to take it to people who know what they're doing!)

-I'm going to be using the phone both here AND in Europe, and anywhere else I travel, so I do want to make sure this is all done properly.

If you guys can give me your advice since you obviously know a ell of a lot more about this all then I do, I will be eternally grateful!

Love the honesty. Sorry I can't help, but where would you get a "legal" unlocked iPhone? I would be interested in that.

get the phone from rogers. why?? Cheaper, warranty, and yellowsn0w.

Hi

An officially unlocked phone is always going to be a good choice simply because they activate & works on any network & any firmware straight out the box.

They only need jailbraking with Quickpwn etc to run third party apps from Cydia/Installer.

The Biggest downside is like IphoneEntusiast said, eBays price tag & No guarantee & you cant play with yellowsn0w :)

Jason: from what I understand, in Italy, Australia and France, Apple unlocks phones themselves, which would mean that you can essentially do anything to it, and it won't relock.

iPhone Entusiast: I don't want to buy one FROM Rogers, because I don't plan on signing a 3-year contract with them, seeing as I'm not sure if I will remain in the country for that long. That, and I'm mad at Rogers, hmf! :) Also, doesn't the warranty get voided if you unlock or jailbreak the phone?

n350z: Ok, here's where the blonde comes in: isn't yellowsnOw just a way to unlock the phone? And if so, why would I want to unlock an already unlocked phone? (I apologize in advance to provoking any eye-rolling!:rolleyes:)

If you buy an officially unlocked phone you wouldn't need to use the yellowsn0w unlock.

You should only need to use Quickpwn to jailbreak for third party applications, If your intend on using a network that isn't supported in the phones carrier bundle list its likely you will get a call forwarding message popping up when you make calls

If you do get this annoying pop up you'd need to jailbreak it to fix :)

Iphone 3G + early cancelation fees is always cheaper than getting an officially unlocked iphone from eBay....ImHo
