My iPhone Unlock Story - Enjoy !
A week ago I bought a PAYG 16GB IPhone here in UK. No success, was already on the latest baseband. No unlock.
After a week I thought I would exchange it for a white one - no probs, no quibble, full exchange.
Tried the unlock, same as first model. No unlock. Plus the cas was slightly misligned.
So I took it back to the store - showed them the case, and I asked to change it for the 'oldest model they have in stock'....hoping for 2.28....so he reached to the back of the storage and got me the earliest. Scanned it and it had a 'delivered to the store' date of 15 April.
Took it home, guess what....latest baseband, no unlock.
So...this morning...I decided to take my iPhone back for a full refund. No probs, wiped the phone, handed it back and got my CC refunded.
So thats 3 iPhones in a week and none can be unlocked. So I might either buy an official unlocked from Australia on eBay OR.........wait til after WWDC....!

Or Failed iPhone Unlock Story.
Buy an AT&T refurb. I know someone who got a refurb, it was on baseband 2.30.03 BUT Bootloader 5.8. After a quick baseband downgrade, he was ready to use it with a Philippine telco SIM.

Don't be so critical. He's just pointing out how Apple is having all carriers make sure their iPhones are updated with the un-unlockable firmware and baseband.
In reference to the WWDC, Apple is still unaware if they are or aren't going to present the new iPhone. There was a rumor circulating that there was going to be ANOTHER special event a few weeks after the WWDC where the new iPhone be introduced but it may seem that it WILL be introduced early June. Hopefully with the official release of 3.0 OS, the dev-team will be able to find an exploit to unlock it.

Yes thats really what I was saying...except some people obviously have an issue comprehending the subtle nuance of my original post.
I actually see no point in buying a locked iPhone when you can quite easily buy an official unlocked iPhone for a slightly higher price. Countries selling are Belgium, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore ...to name a few. Then you never have to worry about an unlock/firmware/basebands etc and you can concentrate on using it how it was intended !
Or am I missing something ??? !

Buy one off eBay with BB 2.28 and YellowSn0w - the unlocked ones are a LOT more expensive. Also some 'unlocked' phones from China were sold with a piggyBack SIM stick in the sim holder and weren't unlocked at all.
He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

I think at this late stage in the game, with the current product at the end of its cycle (iPhone 3G) and due a refresh in the next few weeks, buying an iPhone 3G now would be foolish.
I am waiting for next gen version and then decide.
