2.30.03 baseband and yellowsn0w WORKING ???
Hello,
I just got my 2nd replacement iphone from apple. In my original iPhone and the first replacement I had 2.28 baseband so yellowsn0w was working ok.
I use an official SIM card but when I travel I use different sim cards.
So, this iphone came with 2.2.1 and 2.30.03 baseband, ok?
I'm sure, i've checked it more than twice.
I installed yellowsn0w just for the sake of trying.
Inserted a non-official sim card, and the iphone asked to be connected to iTunes. I did connect it - and the iphone went back to normal.
Strangely enough, the sim card connected to the cellular network.
How is this possible?

Actually.. it doesn't seem to be yellowsn0w related.
This is very weird.. I use Movistar so I put in my original movistar sim card. OK, it works as it should.
then I put a TIM italian sim card (a carrier that sells the iphone in italy) and iTunes actually accepts this sim card.
but I put any other sim card and iTunes rejects it.
what gives!!!?

No, my iPhone is spanish, originally bought from Movistar.
I went to Italy for two months and used it over there with a TIM sim card and yellowsn0w.
Now back in Spain, got the replacement iphone with 2.2.1 already installed, with baseband 2.30.03 AND i get that behaviour..

umm.. maybe you got lucky and got one of those unlocked phones? since spain also sells them unlocked. u might wanna check and remove yellowsn0w and see if the behaviour is the same

There are no unlocked phones being sold in Spain.
They're all Movistar. Some stores sell factory unlocked iphones but their origin is normally Italy.
The point is that my iphone isn't fully unlocked. It works with my Movistar and TIM cards.. I haven't tried other TIM cards but it does NOT work with other spanish sim cards (Vodafone, Yoigo, even Orange israel)
Right now I don't have yellowsn0w running (turned it off using bossprefs and restarted - made sure using ps aux | grep yellowsn0w that yellowsn0w wasn0t running) and my TIM sim card works

Not officially.
Officially only Movistar iphones are sold in Spain.
All those unlocked have a foreign origin. Not like spanish iPhones were made in Spain - what I mean is that those unlocked phones being sold in Spain were originally manufactured and sold in Italy or other contries.
In fact Movistar tried to shut a few sites down.
