blank 1.1.4, you need to pwn the os bootloader so it can accept unsgined firmware.
if 1.1.4 is already pwned and has not been through a restore using factory image, then you can write custom fw to it.

yes, DFU restore, this itunespwn.exe just fixes itunes properly since winpwn ipwner doesnt for some of us.

you can winpwn 2.0 on any original iphone firmware, it doesnt need to be prepwned with winpwn 1.0, ofc unless you are geting that DFU restore bug some of us are geting...

On the advance tab, do i just click activate? Do i need to enable baseband update or anything like that when building my custom ipsw?

For reference I advise folk to go to the Hackinstosh tutorial page, it has invaluable advice. My problem was misinterpretation of instructions on the tool itself! ITS IMPORTANT TO SAY YES NOT LEGITIMATE USER!! Otherwise if doesn't include unlock in the build!!!

and still no progress..... still getting
error (1600) and error (1602)

I had 1602,1600 and 1601 errors when trying to restore from DFU mode.
Tried the "itunespwn.exe custom_firmware xxx.ipsw" trick but still got the errors.

Then I restarted my iPhone and just restored(with custom 2.0 firmware package) from within iTunes.

Works like a charm now!

click on XPwn announcement and there you can download the windows binaries ...

This stuff seems severely hard..I hope i dont have all these troubles when i get my replacement phone.
