[WinPwn 2.0.0.4] Getting into DFU mode
Hi Guys,
I have seen a few guides and some threads on this where ppl have been having trouble getting into DFU mode. This forum has helped me a lot so I thought I'd share my way of getting into DFU mode and it works every time for me. Hope it works for you.
- Have iphone connected to computer
- turn off iphone
- press and hold the home button
- press and hold the power button
- after a few seconds (4-5 is fine), let go of the power button but keep holding down the home button
- after you hear the device connected chime then you can let go of the home button
- you should be in DFU mode now
NOTE: Your screen does not light up at any time if you've successfully got into DFU mode. If it does, you are in Recovery mode.

DFU mode
You say to let go of Power button after 4-5secs but I've read somwhere (dtube's guide) to let go after 10secs.
A little confused now !!!

k2krazy4u, you are absolutely right. dtube's guide is the one to go for
1. iPhone and Mac/PC are conncted.
2. Shut down the iPhone (red slider), quit iTunes if running
3. Hold Home and start/sleep for 10 seconds
4. Let go of start/sleep but keep holding home
5. keep holding home at least for 10 seconds, but until iTunes starts up and tells you it found an iPhoen in recovery/restore mode. This may take longer that 10 seconds, just keep holding then.
DFU mode can be identified as the iPhone screen is OFF even though iTunes can detect it.

I agree. Specially on timing, 10 seconds. I was unable to get DFU but when i practice with counting now i can go DFU everytime.
Just a note: yeah, it goes blank but in some iphones goes white i have pwned; don't know why, but it works the same.
Cheers.

Yes, lots of the guides say hold for 10 sec but I have found, at least for me, that 10 secs is not necessary. I have done this with 2-3 iphones already so I know it works for me.

Some guides said to keep the phone switched off, some said keep it on. Wish they would make their minds up!

It's a timing thing ...
You can do it with off or on but you have to be able to recognize when you release the power too late.
For consistency sake, do it with the power off. My instruction is taken directly from the pwnagetool app screen. That's how Dev Team have it.
