Let me give some more details on this.
- iphone 2G
- he couldn't get his phone working in the last 4 days.
- Problem was to get into DFU mode.
- itunes 7.7
DFU:
- connect phone to computer
- shutdown itunes
- turn of phone
- hold power + home for 10 sec
- after 10 sec, release power/sleep and continue holding home
- when hearing the connection tone from the computer, let go of home
- itunes will detect the phone
- screen on phone is black
- shift-click restore with custom 2.0 fw
That's it.

just a quick question on top of this, what is the diference between restoring on normal mode or DFU?
For the record, when winpwning 1.0 I did the DFU thing, but when I used the iPwned image (from a mac) to upgrade to 2.0 I didin't bother to DFU, just shift-clicked restore and the upgrade went on.
Was I extremely lucky not to end with a brick, or it didn't really matter since my phone was already Pwned?
Thanks!

I think you meant "release sleep/wake and continue holding home"
Anyway, it should work with iTunes running too. These are the steps I use:
Connect iPhone to computer
Hold both Home and Sleep/Wake buttons till screen turns black
Release the Sleep/Wake button 2 secs after the screen turned black
Continue holding the Home button till your computer beeps saying it detects your iPhone
You can then release the Home button
DFU mode is a success when the screen is totally black. When there is a cable with iTunes logo, you are in Recovery mode. Try again.
iPhone 4 32GB
Firmware : 4.1
Carrier: M1 (Singapore)
Unlocked : Yes
Jailbroken : Yes
Activated : Yes

It's release power/sleep.
I will make correction now.

i had similar problems with DFU and like suggested above, it's the best option and way to do it...cheers!...
Recovery and DFU are a pain sometime...but after you do it a couple of times, you can do it with ur eyes closed and your ears open...lol
cheers!

I have one more suggestion...Through Ziphone-->Advance options--> I can put into DFU Mode...without doing all this and that Normally works all the time.....
Normally thats what i use it for...Just to put in DFU mode as its easier that ways
