The iphone 3G has finally been released in my country 780$ (cheap) like the mad comic lol

At midnight I got a msg from iphones saying there was a carier update for my phone.
I figured what the heck must be a graphic.

What ever it was it was tiny.
Didnt change anything on the phone but people are saying we can now use the phone without needing to hack it !

Anybody have any idea about this

2. Im thinking of geting the new 3G phone purelly for the GPS.
How do people sell it on ebay when you have to enter a contract with at&T to get one ?

Can I ask a relative to walk into a store and buy a 3G and send it to me ? What would be his leagel issues i.e. would his card still get billed for a 2 year lock in contract etc ?

What happens if somebody in the US buys a phone and then breaks it ?
Doe he have to sign a new contract for the new phone ?

The Apple partner carriers can update the carrier bundles that hold informations for data acces, service numbers and more. those files can be updated and thats what happened to you. It's only happening if you use an apple partner carrier in your country (same if you are on a legit iPhone plan or not).

I was quite surprised when i saw that update. I have a 16gb 1gen with monthly plan on the official carrier for Mexico: Telcel. In Feb, i bought my iphone, unlocked with ziphone (yeah, i know, sorry), recently i upgrade to 2.0 with winpwn and that update pop up.

I was feeling "fearless" and i update. Actually it works very good, my carrier logo was MX TELCEL but only shows MX T...., now shows TELCEL, my edge works, even some extra services.

And looking within the file, i could find all of the settings that a regular iphone or any other phone by this carrier (telcel-mx) has. Now my iphone is complete, i got edge, youtube, clients support (yeah, wait for my call), and some silly shortcuts.

But definitly is because i got a monthly plan with this carrier, don't think this will work with others. don't know if anybody can customize this files with their "non-official" carrier specs, but it may worth the try.
