Ok, having got that out of my system, I feel less stressed. I've tried 2.0.0.1, 2.0.0.2, and planning on trying for the 23rd time with 2.0.0.3

I don't know wtf is going on, but everything seems to work out fine until I go to restore the custom ipsw. After everything is all said and done, voila! NOTHING CHANGED.

I followed the iphoneproject's guide, and obviously not working in my favor. Any tips????

One thing users sometimes mix up is when you hit iPwner you have to select the custom firmware file you created. after iPwner did you get the message from iTunes saying something like "iTunes sucessful pwnaged"?

So I figured out what I wasn't doing. I wasn't hold shift when clicking restore.

Yes, everyone, winpwn DOES work, and flawlessly. I just created a custom firmware on my first try on a vista machine, simply by following the directions on iClarified. So, follow them TO THE LETTER. To wit:
Make sure you have installed iTunes 7.7
I guess you have to completely remove winpwn 1.x. I installed winpwn 2.0.0.3 on a fresh machine. The reason for this is because I am staying on 1.1.4, and just couldn't resist trying out the new winpwn.

The real problem in my view is that there just aren't (yet) any worthwhile apps for 2.0. My 1.1.4 phone is a highly-evolved, mission-critical device, so I can't do away with the video recorder, Nemuss Calendar syncing app, MobileCast, fring, iSlsk, Simplify, and squillions of other apps that really make this a revolutionary, ubiquitously-connected, highly-mobile device (and, oh yeah, also a phone). Frankly, the apps that Apple offers are a joke, and pale in comparison to the fabulous, productivity-enhancing applications the developer community has created in the wild. So, hats off to them, and pooh on Jobs & Co. for not wanting us to use this fabulous piece of hardware to its full abilities!
