Success at last!! 2 phones unlocked - 8 hours wasted
Finally i have unbricked my one phone .. and am pretty sure will unlock it now.
I did unlock another phone in 1st shot.
So those you are suffering like i did most of the afternoon and evening and night, here is a synopsis of the discovery.
First .. mod's don't get mad at me .. I want to post something that does make clean sense rather than it be lost with other threads of re/incrimnations.
The real reason you get #6 errors is because winpwn doesn't care about putting the phone in DFU mode and itune 7.7 doesn't let you do that easily .. they know the technique being used. So if you try to load a "custom" ipsw file, itunes finds it .. and doesn't want to help you by telling what's going on.
So you get frustrated and start doing crazy things, one of the crazy thigs you could do is to pull the phone out when itune is trying to restore it .. if you do that you will start getting error 1600/1601/1604 .. basically the phone is not playing nice to iphone anymore.
To get out of it, you have turn the phone off ... disconnect it from PC, hold power and home switch till you see the apple logo .. after this connect it to itunes and restore it to proper 2.0 .. once the phone is working, you can go to unlocking it.
(there are quiet a few ways of doing it, but this one worked for me)
Now to unlock; phone must be put in DFU mode to use the custom ipsw .. but it's not necessary for phone to be in DFU for normal restore.
There are many ways to do it, safest is to use iLiberty+ and then fire up itunes for restore.
Restore instructions are all over the place .. i won't get into that.
I am still getting errors from the unlock process, but the darn thing is working now !!
So my brick is back to being gold again :-)
Lessons -- Search the forms and learn the tricks, Listen to everyone who's trying to tell you something -- my apologies too all who might have been saying the same thing to me .. but I guess i had find it myself.
Why would mods get mad at you ??.

You mentioned using iLiberty to put phone in DFU mode. Would iLiberty detect the phone with 2.0 fw ?

iLiberty with 2.0
No, i misspoke on that issue, iLiberty sees the phone (in which ever mode it's in) but doesn't change mode.

There are other problems with this solution, cydia hung when I tried to update (it).
it's a really bad hand .. power switch won't bring it back, so i had restore the phone again.
In short this winpwn is nowhere near prime time software like iLiberty was .. but there was time to fix these things, here we are talking about 2 - 3 weeks
