Default [HELP] 2g iPhone. Is it a hardware fault

    Hi,
I've got a 2g iPhone, originally 1.1.1. I've been running a ziphone unlocked/activated/jailbroken 1.1.4 for quite some time until recently.
The phone has been crashing (opening an app, and then jumping back to the springboard) more and more frequently, up until the point of it crashing properly - showing the apple logo.

I've tried a few things and am beginning to suspect a hardware fault as the same symptoms show themselves over and over.
I've gone down to iTunes 7.5 (after fully uninstalling 7.5), done a DFU restore, tried normal restore, gone back to 7.7, used winpwn - following various tutorials....
each time I get a "working" phone, except for the fact that it keeps crashing...

    Any suggestions?

If it is a hardware fault - can I send it to Apple - even though it's never been registered with them properly?

    Thanks for reading..

after restoring did you try setting up a new phone instead of using a back up?

    Hi,
Yes I tried a few times - as a new phone, or from a backup. I also tried different copies of the various firmware files as well.
