    Default [Help] 2G 1.1.1. iPhone

    Hey guys,

itīs been a long time since i unlocked my 2G iPhone with anysim. I want to backup my data and upgrade to the newest firmware, which is 2.01 i guess.

    My question now is:

1.) can i upgrade my phone using the newest itunes version (7.7) and unlock it with WinPWN 2.004?
2.) can i load my backup with itunes after i unlock without any problems? Iīd like to keep my contacts, SMS, email setup etc.

    My Iphone data is:
    Version 1.1.1 (3A109a)
    Modem Firmware 04.01.13_G

Thanks for your answers, really appreciate it!

Be extra careful about backing everything up. If you don't use a program like outlook to sync contacts and calendar events through iTunes, YOU WILL LOSE ALL THAT DATA!!

As far as your SMS go, you may just be out of luck, because I don't think those are synced. Anything not synced will be erased.

I'm not sure about email setup, etc.

Yep. Apple changed a lot from 1.1.1 to 2.0.1. user model, structure of databeses for holding sms etc.

make sure to sync all data (addresses, calendar, music, videos) etc first. Doublecheck to make sure they are on your PC.
    Then restore to 2.0.1 custom.
On the first run of iTunes it will offer to "restore from backup". Dont, choose "setup as new iPhone". After that sync the iphone and set it up.

You will be loosing the sms history, call history, Map bookmarks, known Wi-Fi network etc. BUT: your iphone will work. Using the backup might bring back preference files to the iPhone taht dont work or screw up the use of 2.0.1

I'm also still on 1.1.1 and looking to upgrade to 2.0.1. However, I never unlocked my 1st gen phone...only jailbroke it. And I have no intention of unlocking it after upgrading although I'll probably want to jailbreak it again.

Is the method you describe the way I should go about upgrading to 2.0.1? Obviously, there's a bit of a hassle involved in losing known wifi networks and such but if it avoids bigger headaches...

    Any advice?

    Thanks!

(and why can't I find where in the Hackintosh forums UserCP to add/edit signatures?)

Thanks - don't know how I missed that.

    Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

Do I need to do a restore before I upgrade my jailbroken 1.1.1 phone? Or can I just click 'okay' when iTunes asks me if I want to upgrade? I'll probably want to jailbreak it again, too, but I can't really figure out from my forum searches how I should proceed so that I can minimize any chances of bricking my phone.

    Anyone? Bueller?

What you need to do is to create your custom 2.0.1 firmware first. Read the tutorial that has been mentioned many times in the forum

Once that is done, you put the phone in DFU mode and hit shift-restore (in iTunes) to select the custom image you just created.

When done, your phone is on 2.0.1.
The most important is to create your custom image correctly (boot partition = 512, don't select custom logo stuff) and put the phone in DFU Mode. I used 600 for my boot partition.
