[2.0.1 winpwn][Unexpected Event] Classic iPhone survives 2.0.2 upgrade
So i was thinking: OK ill go ahead and do the quickpwn cheat to jailbreak and 2.0.2 fw for my Classic iPhone, and i go ahead and click UPGRADE on itunes. So it goes ahead and downloads the firmware file, and preps the phone for upgrade, loads the firmware on the phone, and as soon as it restarts im expecting the phone to be unlocked and jailed, but lo and behold my phone starts up and everything is fine! Unlocked, jailbroken, all my apps and everything survived the upgrade! i am surprised. Only cydia and installer and my installed apps are gone, but with the quickpwn tool i can add them easily!
so yeah. go ahead and upgrade

R u saying the QuickPwn can make the fw202 functional on 1st gen iphone?
-
-
Are you sure the apps wont get broken on the new firmware?
-
you can update a pwnd 1st gen iphone. i had 1.1.2 otb (unlocked, activ and jailbroken), restored to 1.1.4, pwnd to 2.0.1 and UPDATED to 2.0.2.
you will lose all 3rd party applications when updating, but you can jailbreak 2.0.2 with "quickpwn".
then you have cydia with many things, installer (for the time rather poor selection of applications), and you have itunes store with lots of appl (some free, some to buy)
have a look to the threat "quickPwn-PWN without restore" in section winpwn

I'm on 2.0 and i need to restore it because my speakers don't work now but do using headphones, so i decided to try this and see if it goes to 2.0.2, updating now!
Edit: Whoops didn't realise quickpwn was for 2.0.1 only! Damn..

maybe 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 have the same baseband, so if you managed to jailbreak 2.0.2 then the phone would already be unlocked
plus now you got some kinda mutated halfbreed between .1 and .2

- it has the same baseband.
- if the phone is already jailbroken/activated/unlocked. when you update to 2.0.2, you will loose apps, cydia and etc ...
- you can use quickpwn with 2.0.1 fw and on the updated phone to get the jailbreak back.
This has been discussed in a current thread elsewhere.
Personally, I don't do it ... I choose to wait for an update version of pwnage / winpwn.

Worked for me perfectly. I have jailbroken/unlocked three 2G phones to 2.02 now using the official quickpwn with the 2.01 firmware.
All the phones had different configurations and were originally unlocked using various methods, but shared one thing in common, they were jailbroken and unlocked to 2.01 using the established method (as found here).
I updated each phone to 2.02 using iTunes normal method (Not the DFU or with any additional hacks). The update preserved the Bootneutur unlock that had existed in 2.01, so the modem doesn't seem to have updated. Now a phone that is unlocked but not jailbroken to 2.02. Which basically means, everything works, but you don't have installer/cydia.
At this point, just use the official Quickpwn, in conjunction with the 2.01 firmware... follow the onscreen instructions as normal, make sure all iTunes services are off in your Processes (Ctrl-Alt-Del), and you're set!
I'm not much of a hacker, so I don't know what this method does to the filesystem, or if it negatively effects the phone somehow, but all my Apps from both Cydia and App store, work perfectly fine... and I have observed no problems with anything else on the phone.
Hope that helps answer some of your questions.

Personally, it was the easiest upgrade ive ever done in my life, because when i usually use winpwn to create a custom fw, and i restore to it, i usually lose ALL my playlists and i gotta restore all my phone settings and sync my 1200 songs and videos back onto the phone, but with quickpwn and just upgrading officially, all my music and data was saved and even after quickpwn was just an easy jailbreak and addition of cydia and installer. and there have been absolutely NO ERRORS, no problems and it only took maybe 30 mins to do (including putting back all my 3rd party apps) where doing a full restore with a custom ispw would take like FIVE FUCKING HOURS.
so yeah. i hope we'll be able to continue to jailbreak all continuous FW's like this.
