    Default updating snow leopard

    hi all

i have a dell mini 10v hack with snow leopard 10.6.3, i have stopped doing auto updates but feel i should update some programs. can anyone advise me on what programmes can be updated from the Mac update program and what ones need to be programmed otherwise they will muck up my netbook.

    cheers

It depends on how you have your SL system files organized/configured to take a direct update from apple.

My system, similar configuration to yours but it's not the same make/model, took two updates to 10.6.3 and 10.6.4 directly using Apple software updater without any problem.

    hi ratvn

i dont think anythings set up as i havent changed anything, i did install an update forgetting it was a hackintosh and it installed update snowleopard and some other things, when it restarted it wouldnt load and just brought up the restart page with warning so i had to reinstall snow leopard and the hack again but luckely my files were all saved.

is there any settings i should change?

    cheers

Hackintosh is almost the same as genuine mac except for some system kexts/files, and as long as you manage them accordingly then there should be not much trouble at all.
You just need to make sure your OSX86 patches/fixes staying in separate folder and your Atom kernel being specified/named differently in preparation for Apple direct updating.
Also replace/remove kexts that interfere with your update prior to the task.

    cheers ratvn

i installed the update for itunes but now my loading screen stays on constantly.

i started it up and the loading screen came up but instead of the apple sign a picture of a dell mini10 was there it then rebooted and came up with the loading screen and normal apple sign but after about an hour it still hasent loaded.

im going to let it run when i get home to see if it changes.

    any ideas?

    cheers

Try to boot with -x -v (and -f if needed) to see if you can force cache rebuilt and/or get any error message.

So you're at 10.6.4 system now?
You can check in Profiler to make sure that system version and kernel version are matched.
It should say system version 10.6.4 and kernel version 10.4. You also should use Atom kernel version 10.4, not vanilla.
