I installed using kalyway 10.5.2 a month ago on my stock hp zd8000 laptop with no probs. Now I tried to update to 10.5.6 using apples software update, and says I need to restart when installing this update, so I click ok. The OS logs me out, and a installation box comes up showing me the status of the upgrade. At 11%, a translucent dark gray box comesup saying I need to restart in several languages. It says I can either press the resetbutton (which my laptop does not have) or hold the power button down for several secs, which I do. Laptop of course turns off, and when I power back up I get the same dark gray box asking me to reset or reboot. I cannot get back into OS. Please help, as I have a lot of data on there that I now apparently can't access.

@_@ you cant use software update with kalyway... check the sticky about how to update in the installation forum... basically u need to update using kalyway combo update 10.5.3, then jump to 10.5.5, then google to update to 10.5.6

Argh! Ok thanks that makes sense, but now is there any way to salvage data now? Or did I fubar it and now have to suck it up, wipe my drive, and reinstall kalyway?

You can safe files of coz, install macdrive in windows, to see the OSX partition, then reinstall
