I have installed iATKOS v7 on my desktop computer. Most devices work (In fact, I'm typing from it.) However, despite being able to install from a DVD, the DVD drive doesn't seem to work when inside the OS. I'm not sure why - whether it's an IDE controller problem or specifically a problem with this drive - but whenever I search for information, I get people with the Waiting for Root device problem, so I'm assuming the problem I have is uncommon.

I've also tried running iPC before this, and it had more problems, and also had the DVD drive issue. The drive has worked under Windows and works under openSuSE Linux 11.2.

I'm rather new to OS X so It's possibly an obvious issue. I do have a boxed copy but no Apple computer. (By the way, since my first success with getting Leopard running on my x86, I've been impressed with OS X, and also impressed with the progress and number of drivers offered by OSx86 distributions. Cool stuff.)

Well, It turned out to be a driver issue. I had no ATA controller driver installed somehow...

So I installed the one that sounded the most likely to match my ATA controller, which I assumed was same as my SATA controller. It was For future reference, the driver can be found here:
