    thanks man!

    just one more quick question,
is there any reason why the fan on the graphics card may not be active in a Hackintosh?

the card works fully right now. would it be safe to assume that the fan is working ok too?

    here is the card:

Well this is a card fully supported with OSX I think, you can ask about on IRC, irc.osx86.hu, channel #radeon, maybe some guru can help with this, or maybe this is "normal" on OSX, :hack

hmm, you need irc client, on windows I use a simple one like sysreset or xchat, on leopard you can use linkinus or colloquy, google them

TheDriller.... I am in the same situation as you are, planning to use my setup to do audio production. Except im months behind you because im just in the research portion right now. How is it going so far, any problems, hows the stability?..... im planning the build a pc from scratch with the sole purpose of running OSX86, so im just making sure im spending my money and time wisely becuse right now i dont have a computer and i need one soon....

Im just getting a bit confused with different people of different forums saying that this is only a hobby and you shouldnt do this as a replacement for a REAL mac, but than other people such as you guys are saying its fine.... do you or anyone else have anything to add at all?

    Hey man,
Its running Logic Studio just fine, only ever had a few little crashs, nothing severe at all. a few points:

-my machine is a Dell Inspiron Quadcore, not custom built so i cant comment on what a custom machine would be like.

-the startup is quick enough, but the OS X GUI is slow for a little while after startup, icons take a second or two to appear, the dock kinda "glitchs" the first time i point at it,once Logic loads up it seems to run fine. compared to the Quadcore Mac Pro i use in college though, its a slow startup.

-There is a "shutdown ritual" i need to follow to get the shutdown right, took a while to figure out but its ok now. the machine shuts down most of the way, the fans and lights stay on so i need to manually "choke" the power button afterwards. i dont like it, but it works.

-The machine handles even the biggest Logic projects with no hassel, from big MIDI based arrangements to full band recordings (40+ tracks of audio with at least 2 plugins on every track). very ocassional "whoops, audio engine fell over" messages on starting playback, never perminant and only once or twice has the whole Logic App had to crash.

Overall, i like it a lot, i get my work done and its all good. but i'm itching to get a real mac, for peace of mind and security. as it stands, when there is a little hic-up i cant tell if its me, the machine, the crack copy of OS X, or a combination of all those that is at fault.

I looked at the local second-hand classifieds and saw two seperate "8core Mac Pro, 6months old" ads, both at the €1000 mark. thats as much as i paid for my dell 6months ago. go figure eh?
