I think this is the right thread to continue while i am having still troubles with downgrading do 3.1.2 form
On my 3G I do not have SHSH lower than 4.1

When I downgrade to 3.1.2 with DFU mode and restore old firmware via iTunes, the phone turns on but i can only make emergency calls. I can not get into apps and other stuff. Only emergency call panel is available.The phone is locked to some UK network.

Where should i go from here?

Any help will be appreciated.

No this isn't really the right thread, your problem is not related to downgrade. Your problem is related to hacktivation/unlock.

If you read more carefully, the original poster said that they had an operator unlocked phone.

You do not need a SHSH to restore any iOS 3.x version on a 3G iPhone

Look under redsn0w and ultrasn0w sections here - your solutions are there.
If you have updated to 4.2.1 you likely have a baseband that can't be unlocked. 05.14 or 05.15 - this means your only options are fuzzyband or to use the iPad baseband 06.15. Please take up the conversation in an appropriate thread as I'd like to not see this thread dragged further offtopic.

Hi guys,

just had to register cause im in that much of a mess with my iphone at the moment. hope someone can give me some advice.

Its a 3GS 16gb and was on 3.1.3, like a total IDIOT i updated to 4.2.1 (Firmware 05.15.04)

Is there anything i can do to sort this out? I need to get cydia installed in order to unlock etc. Dont want to use the method out now because it updates firmware to 06.15.

Is there anyway around this or can i downgrade at all? I have no SHSH files i dont believe :/

You have three options.

1. Use the 6.15 unlock
2. Wait for a tiny tiny chance that the iPhone dev team have found a way to downgrade baseband (there are hints that they have found something, but no definitive proof yet). SHSH doesn't help with downgrading baseband at all.
3. Contact the carrier that the phone is locked to and find out how much it costs to get it unlocked officially (if this carrier is AT&T, don't bother - they don't offer unlock)

Do you think im best just getting rid of the phone? are 3G's capable of running 4.2.1 as smoothly as they can 3.1.3?

Also do you believe it will be long untill 4.1.2 will be able to be jailbroken without tethering?

The 3G has half the ram of the 3GS and struggles to run iOS 4 with the same performance as a 3GS

It's already been demonstrated (as long as you saved a 4.2beta 3 SHSH ) - the only delay is that they are trying to develop a way that is more flexible and doesn't require that you planned in advance and registered with Cydia to save a SHSH for a beta iOS version.

It's too late now to get this 4.2b3 SHSH, Apple has stopped signing them.
