Default Unlock Iphone 4 running 4.2.1 with baseband 1.59.00 (not currently possible)

If you manage to upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 on an iPhone 4 without updating baseband from 1.59.00 - ultrasn0w 1.1-1 will NOT work.

This baseband should in theory be unlockable, but it appears that ultrasn0w (or maybe mobile substrate) needs a small update to fix this problem.

So.. all iPhone 4 owners who rely on unlock, stay at 4.0.x or 4.1 (with baseband 1.59.00) for now. Do not bother trying 4.2.1 until a confirmed solution is available from the iPhone dev team.

    Hi,

I have a question. Lets say I just got a iphone 4, which my father didnīt have a real use for, but it was already updatet to FW 4.2.1 via itunes. Is there anything I can do, if I need an unlock? Can I go back to FW 4.1?

Thank you very much, if anyone could help me!

You are threadjacking, this is the wrong place to ask that question. A more suitable thread is http://www.hackint0sh.org/f242/150087.htm#post589566 (the answer is the window of opportunity for downgrade of iPhone 4 baseband to an unlockable version closed on 9 September 2010)

    Hi,

Sorry, but just verifying whether this is still the case since it was posted in November 2010. I have an iPhone 4 running 4.2.1 with 1.59 that is jailbroken. I see ultrasn0w 1.2 is out on Cydia and Cydia makes it sound like this will unlock an iPhone 4... but blog.iphone-dev.org isn't clear about whether this will work.

    Any advice?

    Thanks!

Yes that combination of baseband 1.59 on a jailbroken iOS 4.2.1 with ultrasn0w 1.2 installed will work. You can unlock.

Avoid iOS4.3 until there are further updates from the iPhone dev team.

    Excellent! Thanks for the update.

Curious: I'm heading to the UK later today for 10 days. My plan is to buy a sim card while there. Am I going to have problems with carrier settings? When I did this back in 2007, I needed to adjust the carrier settings... Any good guides that you've seen on this?

It'd be great if there was a big table somewhere - hardware / software combinations and the best tools to use. Does this exist and I just haven't spotted it?

    Thanks!

So, for iPhone 4 with 4.2.1 and this baseband, what is the best way of jailbreaking to get to ultrasn0w in Cydia?
