Unlock Iphone 4 @ FW4.1
Hi, I was using an unlocked Iphone 4 (ultrasn0w) at the version 4.0.1 for some time now. Lately I decided to update to the version 4.1 but so that I could not lose my unlock I retained the old baseband (via a custom firmware).
The problem is that by now (that I have completed the update) my phone is both non-jailbroken and locked. I hear that using LimeRa1n (to jailbreak) would be dangerous since I have unlocked my phone once already.
So what you can advice me to do? Remember I'm on FW4.1 *old* baseband.
Thanks

Have you verified that you still have old baseband via TinyUmbrella?
You might be a bit confused. Custom IPSW will prevent baseband upgrade on 3G and 3GS. For the iPhone 4, the best way to prevent baseband upgrade is to restore using TinyUmbrella's TSS server.
I've not actually checked to see if Pwnagetool 4.1 will block baseband upgrade on an iPhone 4 by itself.
If you truly used custom IPSW, then you likely answered incorrectly to the "can you activate your phone legimimately in iTunes". This can be fixed by making a new IPSW and using expert mode to confirm that the "activate" option is ticked.

Baseband v 01.59.00 , FW v 4.1 . Checked.
I just don't know how to jailbreak.
If I could get any advice on that it would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

If you truly used custom IPSW, then you should be already jailbroken. What you are missing is hacktivation.

If you already used custom IPSW then. It won't help to try and use limera1n, greenpois0n or redsn0w to jailbreak again.

Hmm, it seems that I've messed somewhere up when I was creating the custom firmware. I guess I have to create it again. Of course it seems a bit strange since I've used all the available info on the web. Anyway thanks, I hope that this time around it will work.

This guide is pretty accurate. I would recommend you use PwnageTool 4.1.2 instead or 4.1 that the guide links to: Dev-Team Blog - 20102010 event
Step six explains the (h)Activation option. It can be summarised as "deselect Activate if you have an iPhone legitimately activated on an official carrier"
Also in step 6, they explain how to install OpenSSH, this is not necessary in most cases you can skip that

You know that limesn0w is a fake. Please stop promoting misleading blogs
This has been clearly answered. iPhone 4 unlock for iOS 4.1 /4.2 baseband is not definitely confirmed, all the dev team have said is that they have some strong leads which they will evaluate after iOS 4.2 is released
This is in stark contrast to the unlock situation for 3G and 3GS where the dev team have said they will have an updated unlock within days of 4.2 release
Thread closed, answered already and it is just attracting spam
