Hey, ahh I think I see what the problem is.
When I followed the steps, I created the custom firmware successfully but when I attempted to restore it via ITunes it gave me the 1015 Error and would just close down. So after reading a couple threads and blogs I downloaded Recboot and used that to get the firmware installed. The iPhone is currently up and working on firmware 4.1 now but the baseband is still stuck to 5.15.04 I believe. Is there a fix to this? I really hope there is
Getting kind of desperate and not sure what to do cause this iPhone's brand new
Please help! Thank you so much!

You say that you have recently deliberately purchased an iPhone with intent to unlock it, if you had done your research you would have known that at the time of purchase no unofficial unlock was available. Additionally, you appear to have ill-advisedly already gone to iOS 4.2.1 and then downgraded to 4.1 - which of course does not downgrade baseband.
Have you covered the basics? Backed up your 4.1 SHSH via tiny umbrella?
The jailbreak and unlock process have become a lot more complex than they were under the 2G. As this is not your personal phone and it was purchased recently - my advice to you is to return your iPhone and instead purchase a "commitment free/officially unlocked" iPhone from Canada/Hong Kong or Singapore.
If you do choose to persevere with unlocking this phone. Keep in mind that we can't generally help you without logs and relevant information. This link explains how to locate and share that information http://www.hackint0sh.org/f137/130802.htm
1015 generally means that the baseband in the IPSW is OLDER than the baseband in your iPhone. So maybe you have done something wrong with pwnagetool.
Also, I cannot emphasise the following enough: You need to realise this is intended as a "last-ditch" option for those who accidentally upgraded to new baseband. It also locks you into using custom IPSW for ever.
YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15.
1. There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.
2. If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway).
3. Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail). You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that).
Certainly don’t update to 06.15 if you don’t need to! Only do this if you need the unlock and you’re stuck on 05.14 or 05.15, and you’re willing to assume the above risks.

Thank you for your reply.
Sigh yeah so I guess I learned the hardway that it is no longer as easy as unlocking a 2G. I will try my best to post my logs asap.
Is there anything I can do now to get this thing back up and running? I mean Cydia is installed and everything and so is ultrasn0w so something must be going right, right?
I don't know what to do, I'm so lost and confused. I've been reading blogs and forums all day in search of a solution but have come up empty. If anything, I think you guys would know best. I don't think my iPhone is clearly on baseband 6.15 cause it still shows up as 5.15.04 when I go to About.
If worst comes to worst, how would I go about returning the product? Is there anything I should specifically say to avoid a void in warranty? Is there any way out of this? Sorry I normally wouldn't do this but I'm getting really desperate as stated before.
All help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

If you absolutely want to continue trying to unlock this phone, then you have no choice but to update baseband to 6.15 and this will prevent you from claiming warranty or trying to return the iPhone (I am assuming you are still able to return the device and get your money back as you only purchased it recently)

How would I update to baseband 6.15? The last time I tried to use pwnage tool, the recent one that was released sunday, I received the 1015 error while trying to restore it to the custom 4.1 firmware
Also, would the phone atleast work for AT&T SIM cards?
Would Apple accept a return even if the plastic seal is broken and ripped off? I bought it on Fridayso it hasn't even been 7 days
Thank you for the help

1015 is quite normal when your current baseband is newer than the one included in the ipsw you are restoring.
Through AT&T you can return the phone up to 30 days after purchase and get most of your money back.
You must pay - monthly service charges (only for the number of days you have actually had the phone). You don't get the activation fee back ($36 I think)
Plus if it is returned opened you must pay a 10% restocking fee (unless this is illegal in your state/county)
It used to be that if you had the phone for more than 30 days - you could keep the phone and pay an early termination fee - AT&T doubled this fee not so long ago. You should check to see if this is still accurate before making any decisions. I don't live in the US and a quick call to AT&T (or a check of their website) will answer your questions better than I can.

Glad my advice helped.
Your friend must have updated to baseband 6.15.x, so now you can never exchange your iPhone under warranty (unless the guy examining the phone doesn't notice the iPad baseband).
