I tried the manually choosing your carrier (t-mobile) and it does not work. I am having the same problems, my signals goes in and out. I also tested out my sms and its not working! I used purplerain to jailbreak and ultrasnow to unlock. 3g on or off its the same thing, signal goes in and out.

I don't have any information as to why people reporting wifi signal instability.
Remember, if you don't need the unlock at the moment, you can remove ultrasn0w to stop the unlock. Try that to see if your wifi is more stable.
This kind of test can help confirm if ultrasn0w is indeed causing wifi issues.

Remember, jailbreak can be removed by restoring the phone using apple firmware 3.0.

Unlock can be remove by turning off ultrasnow

    Default ultrasn0w causes the problem

    @ dtube

Ultrasn0w is the reason for the fading cell and wifi signal. I have checked this on 2 3GS phones now. After purplera1in and legit activation everything works fine. As soon as ultrasn0w is installed the Cell signal fades every 30-60 seconds until it is gone completlely, then WIFI switches off and comes back on after 3 seconds together with cell signal.

This happens with legit SIM and non legit SIM. 3G on or off does not make a difference. Various trial/error approaches (re-install ultra, reinserting SIM, switch to airplane mode) did not help.

Interestingly, ultrasn0w makes the SIM detection a little laggy - takes some time for an update if you insert another SIM or does not work at all until reboot

Strange... lost signal, then rebooted...everything works fine. Have not lost signal or wifi since then!
