Coming Friday 19th June 2009, UltraSn0w will be able to unlock FW3.0 on the iPhone 3G - and probably on the 3GS too!
3Gs owners will, of course have to wait until it's been jailbroken but the jailbreak for the 3G will be released shortly after FW3.0 is made publicly available.

so, let me get this straight: i have to update my 2.2.1 02.30.03 iphone to 3.0 04..., then jailbrake it with using the new version of quickpwn, then unlock it using ultrasnow?right?or wrong?

No, the new version of quickpwn will be released today. It is only UltraSn0w we have to wait for.

cant wait 2 coz am already stuck with a New Iphone 3G 8GB locked ! lol, i was so excited to try the new firmware lol.

god we need just one ultrasn0w thread lol

for the best, if you rely on the unlock: Dont do anything until the release on friday, but take the time to gather all the info youll need, ie Backing up, making a second backup on another computer lol, downloading pwnagetool or quickpwn, getting plenty of sleep so you dont mess up

if you're an official carrier user, well you dont have to wait
