    Default ultrasn0w draining battery?

my friend and i noticed that ultrasn0w seems to be draining our iPhone 3G's batteries pretty quickly (like 1% every 3 minutes according to the battery percentage thing)

    i'm on at&t, while my friend's on t-mobile USA.

does anyone else notice this too?

    Yup.

I have the same problem here on my 3G. Battery seems to last between 4-5 hours, managed to get 7 hours with 3G,Bluetooth,Location Services and WiFi turned off..

It appears that there is an issue with apsd process (the push notification daemon), so I tried turning notifications off and even tried killing the process via terminal access, but the problem remains. I even tried removing the execute permission from the apsd binary and this resulted to a bricked phone, so back to restoring etc.

I'm waiting for an update from dev-team on this issue as I'm sure they're already working on it.

It also happends on legally unlocked iphones (without ultrasn0w), so it seems to be a general issue with 3.0

    Default definitely drains

I had my phone jailbroken and setup with wifi with no problems with battery life. However, as soon as i got it unlocked with ultrasn0w, battery life tops out around 5 hours. That's without even making a call or using it. I just set it on my desk at work and have to charge it by the time lunch rolls around. Kinda sucks, I can't even use it as an alarm clock since the battery dies before I have to get up in the morning.

I don't have email or anything even configured. I'm guessing this may be related to the frequency that the phone checks for cell signal, but I have no way to confirm that. Any ideas how I can tune how often that heartbeat occurs?

We should all remember that we have what is in essence a laptop computer in our hands with the iPhone and a device unlike a normal mobile that begs to be used!

Simply keeping it plugged in as often as possible -when at your desk, at home, at night will go a long way to making sure you have power when you need it. I have 3 chargers - one at work, two at home and one by my bed and one in the living room. I would have a car charger if I owned a car.

Also, don't forget, if you are using the phone (voice or data) in a area where service is poor (i.e. North America) then you will drain the battery faster. It takes more power to connect to a cell site that is further away from you (all other things being equal). A femtocell (I think ATT sell them) at home will also improve battery life as this brings the cell site to your house!

Default And the bad guy is... Push.

After 4 restores and thorough troubleshooting I can confirm that it's only the Push service that sucks the battery's life.

Push notifications is one thing that needs to be turned off, but Push e-mail must be also turned off. After restoring the firmware, I deleted my email accounts and re-entered them, turning the Push function off. Now the battery life seems to be back to normal - in fact it seems better than OS 2.2.1 with all radios turned on.

Now, why am I paying Apple for the Push e-mail service of MobileMe without being able to use it is another story... I hope this gets fixed soon.

I keep push and fetch off/never on my unlocked FW 3.0 3G

I have not noticed a change in battery life from when I was unlocked at FW 2.2

I keep my screen dimmed to about 33%, and because I use TmobileUSA, my 3G network is always off..

I have not yet learned how to display battery percent in 3.0 on a 3G iPhone, please point me to the info if you can..

Im curious about a tethering link too, if you have that, not meaning to hijack your battery thread.. hope you dont mind..

Happens with me too. But as the other guy said, who isn't using ultrasn0w, its probably a problem with the firmware. Lets hope they fix it and the dev-team have an unlock ready

Tha battery percent feature is only available on the 3GS, not the 3G. However you can download SBsettings via Cydia and enable it - just like the one on the 3GS.

Guys this happens if you dont have a mobiled data flat. The iPhones tries to subscribe to the service all the time even though it doesnt work and this drains the cpu and the battery. Even games like SIMs or NFSU dont work well because of that.

To verify whether you have this issue turn on SIMs or NFSU and see whether it runs badly. Then turn on airplane mode and start it again. It should run fine now.

I couldnt find a problem for that solution either, but once I got my mobile data flat it disappeared!
