Default Must be done with Vista!

Just a heads up from personal experience following this tutorial:

This only worked perfectly when done with Vista. Windows XP will get you stuck in this exact dead end (unable to get out of restore mode).
Aside from that small detail, this was a very good and well explained process for shaking the dreaded 3.0 curse.

Do not attempt on Windows XP!! It only works with Vista.

    Hi

I still cant seem to get any service with 2.2.1?

Before the update to OS3.0 - I had perfect signal - I updated, jb, ultrasn0w'd - But got the "no service" message - Have tried many different things/tricks (ie reset settting, 3g on/off, airplane mode, takin sim card out in after makin calls etc!!) But nothing seems to work!

Can anyone suggest anything else I can do?

What FW are you on now?
Restore to 3.0 redSn0w and UltraSn0w amd it will work
Don't restore a backup and things will be fine.

    Im back running OS3.0

Ive tried this - But gives me the same problem - Phone isnt faulty either - Was working with 2.2.1!!

This is a common problem among some iPhone owners.

There is not 100% working solution from what I have read.

However some people have said the following solutions fix the problem.

    1) Restore Firmware, before iTunes recognizes the device, use redsn0w then ultrasn0w
    2) Turn off 3G
    3) Turn off / off airplane mode
    4) Remove sim card - Turn off iphone - Put the sim card in another phone and make a phone call, put the sim card back into the iPhone switch it on
    5) Downgrade to 2.2.1 and use ultrasn0w

Like I said, none of these solutions have worked for me, but these are what are listed around the internet - Maybe it will help someone out there

Step 2 MUST be done BEFORE step 1.

Since you are on a 3G, here is the link to follow... do exactly what it says, then please let us know if you still have a problem.

iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock the iPhone 3G, 3GS Using UltraSn0w
"If you are on T-Mobile remember to turn off 3G before starting..."

fwiw, I live in an area with very poor Tmobile reception. Usually I just have very few signal bars, or they look very short.

However, recently I had the no service indicator, after being in a no reception area for more than an hour.

I powered off the phone, then back on. It indicated full reception bars for a moment, then went back to no service..

this happened twice in one day, both times I was in an area with poor Tmobile service.

Here is what Im guessing may be happening.. when in a poor reception area, the phone tries to connect to the network for a period of time, then gives up, showing no service.

When I move to a new location, if the no service still shows, it goes away by powering the phone off, and back on again.

So my question to the original poster is, are you in an area with poor Tmobile phone service.. that is to say, does your signal strength indicate less than full reception?

If so, maybe you have a situation that is caused by intermittent poor Tmobile service in the location where you are having the problem.

I suggest you try moving to a location with strong Tmobile signal strength, and see if the no service issue goes away after a power off/on cycle. (effectively the same as cycling airplane mode off and on)

What Im saying is, if you are in a marginal reception area, the phone may be cycling to no service because of Tmobile, not because of Ultrasn0w..

I do not have the problem you do, my phone does not say no service after 2.5 hours, it has only done it on one day, and I have had my 3G iPhone unlocked with Ultrasn0w since it first came out.

So, I tentatively blame poor Tmobile service for your no service problem..

let us know if you find out something else

By the way Ultrasn0w for 3.0 will unlock all 2.2.1 and 2.2 ,if you downgrade 3.0 to any ipsw 2.2, 2.2.1 , Dev team Ultrasn0w unlock will work cause it is designed for baseband 04.26.08. ( not only on ipsw 3.0) , if you are facing problems with 3.0 like so many I recommend to downgrade to 2.2.1 .

It works like a charm, tested by me on 2 iPhone 3G downgraded from 3.0 to 2.2.1 or 2.2 ( baseband must be 04.26.08)
Do you have GPS working after downgrade? Recently upgraded to 3.0 with ultra 91-1 and no more GPS. WTF!
