Default Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM) - replace hacktivation - fix push/battery drain

    From: Dev-Team Blog - Ultra-recycle
Update #6: Developer @sbingner (author of TetherMe) has made some excellent progress devising a new hactivation method that kills two birds with one stone for all you ultrasn0w unlockers. His tool, “Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM)” tricks your iPhone and iTunes into creating legitimate activation tickets even though you’re unlocked with ultrasn0w. This means you get the full benefit of push applications, and your battery life increases substantially. If you’d like to try it out, check out Subscriber Artificial Module

To help make it easier to try out @sbingner’s tool, we’ve updated redsn0w to include a new “Deactivate” option for the 3G and 3GS. Use this option *after* you’ve installed SAM…it will remove the normal patches made to lockdownd and let SAM take over. (sbingner plans on making a button to do this within SAMPrefs too). Great work, @sbingner!
You can get the updated redsn0w from the link above.

There are a couple of different ways to try this out but the redsn0w approach is simplest.

I highly recommend that all ultrasn0w users who rely on hacktivation try this solution out instead.

This is a really great thing that @sbingner has taken care of here -- so many of people's problems after unlocking are caused by how hactivation works and what it does and doesn't do.

    I'm thoroughly impressed.

You have then connected your iPhone to iTunes and it won't activate?

You MUST have a sim card inserted when you do this.

Also I highly recommend that you have OpenSSH installed when you try this. That allows you to troubleshoot a bit if it goes wrong.

Otherwise, you may be able to re-jailbreak and hacktivate with redsn0w again. This is not ideal but it will get you back to the state you were in before.

Finally, if you have a passcode set on your iPhone (not on the SIM but on the phone) then you should turn this off (temporarily) before trying this. If the passcode is required by your work email (microsoft exchange), then you should temporarily remove your work email configuration from the phone.

    I'm getting the same issue...
I've tried SAM on auto-detect, by bundle, by country with no success on iTunes.

I regretfully updated to the 06.15 ipad baseband and got the same results.
    I'm on an iPhone 3GS with 4.21.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

So is this confirmed working on iPhone 4 firmware 4.0 or 4.1 pawnage jailbreak baseband 1.59.00? I would like to be sure before I go ahead with this seemingly awesome find.

It should work with back as far as 3.1.3 with any baseband that can be unlocked by ultrasn0w.

Well how strange. So anyhow I pwnage 4.1 and updated Cyrus and added the SAM repo last night to try it out and would revert lockdown but would deactivate. Also said I was factory activated ? End results was it did work I tried it with and without ultraslow. Since I require unlock. Any help would be great if not then no biggy. Just waited to see how well the battery dose and smoothness of the os and push.
