    Default help needed with SAM

hello im new to the forum and am having problems with the battery drain issue..
i installed SAM and it seems to be doing nothin for the battery..

i have an iphone 3gs iOs 4.1 originally on baseband 05.14.02 that was jailbroken but not unlocked or activated.. i activated the phone theough itunes with the original 02(ireland) sim card.. then yesterday i upgraded to baseband 06.15.00 so that i could perform the unlock with redsn0w...b6,
for my Meteor(ireland) sim card.. everything went ok and the meteor sim card is working fine and has been in the phone since, the only issue is the battery now.. i then installed SAM and everything went fine until i had to activate the sim through itunes, where i had no option to activate the sim(the phone just showed up as normal when normally connected to itunes, with no prompt to activate sim card)
i installed sbsettings for a temporary fix to this problem but was wondering what i would hav to do to resolve this problem the way SAM intended..

is it a simple case of running redsn0w again with the original 02 simcard to deactivate the phone?

any help would be much appreciated,
    thank you in advance

There are several causes for battery drain, SAM is specifically for issues related to hacktivation (this type of issue has existed for some people since at least iOS 3.0 but impacted more people with iOS 4.1 and higher)

Do you mean jailbroken but not unlocked or hacktivated? Ie Jailbroken and activated

A phone that is jailbroken but not unlocked or activated is stuck at the "slide for emergency" screen and is pretty useless.

Redsn0w is NOT an unlock. get your terms right

Ultrasn0w is an unlock and SAM is useless if you aren't using ultrasn0w. Updating your baseband to 06.15.00 is also useless if you aren't using ultrasn0w (and you were previously on baseband 05.15 or 0.14 which ultrasn0w don't work with)

Most likely - yes this is the solution, run redsn0w and deactivate the phone.
You should not need to swap the simcard

I have a quick question I have the iphone 4 4.2.1 bb 03.10.01 I unlocked it with redsnow.

I am having some pretty bad battery life. I looked at your tutorials to help with that whole SAM thing. I have installed all that but I do no have a sim card in my iphone and someone also said that the iphone 4s do not have the battery life problem.

Is it just a problem with my phone? or it the normal battery life just really horrible lol (I charge it 3-4 times a Day) Wifi is always on

Oh yah the battery gets pretty hot sometimes too.

    Any help would be awesome

There have also been some updates to the SAM things is there anything else I should know?

    Thanks

    Remy

Redsn0w is NOT an unlock (for the iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4) - please read http://www.hackint0sh.org/f137/32703.htm so you stop using incorrect terminology.

Your information about iPhone 4 models not having "the battery life problem" is misleading and probably incorrect.

SAM's primary purpose is to help those who are FORCED to use hacktivation in conjunction with ultrasn0w.

Hacktivation has always been a small problem - because it doesn't behave identically to Apple's activation in all circumstances.

SAM only works if you have a SIM card inserted and you are using ultrasn0w, it is NOT enough to simply install SAM, you need to also activate with iTunes - this can't be don't without a SIM card inserted.

On older iOS versions it was OK to jailbreak with redsn0w to hacktivate and never insert a SIM card. This is no longer true with iOS 4.1 and 4.2.1

Downgrade to iOS 4.0.1 or find a way to activate legitimately. SAM will not work for you until ultras0w works with bb 03.10.01

Crap I didn't mean unlock I meant jailbreak, I know it isn't a unlock that was my bad

Thank you for the other information. I thought it wasn't necessary to use a SIM card I thought I was just doing something wrong with the SAM program.

Yah I didn't even use ultras0w I am waiting for it to come out with a version that can work with my bb I just used a tethered version which is what redsn0w installed.

Man I need to find a SIM card lol This battery life problem sucks >.< hahahaha

This is what http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GwIM4xS2t0 SAM is?? You need to use the stock firmware (for example if I am on 4.1, I need to use 4.1 stock?) while deactivating in the redsn0w? or is it the current running custom firmware on iPhone from pwnagetool?

I guess with this method http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=13089 you dont need redsn0w at all as you have already jailbroken with custom pwnagetool IPSW also with the option in SAM to "Revert Lockdownd to Stock"?

The steps are little confusing, so here is what I did:

Follow the steps mentioned here: iClarified - iPhone - How to Hactivation Your iPhone Using Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM)

This is what I did, I have iPhone 3GS with custom 4.1 from pwnagetool, old Bootrom, 05.11.07 baseband, had unlocked with ultrasn0w.

    1. Have open SSH installed and SSH toggle turned on
    2. Have the passcode lock turned off too (both as suggested by oletheros).
    3. Have the SIM card in, remove the ultrasn0w.
    4. The latest SAM version now is 0.1.7-1 and is different from Dec 3rd tutorials that you will come across lot of portals. So just follow the iclarified tutorial which is based on latest SAM version and this version has the Revert Lockdownd to Stock built in. So, follow the exact steps.
    5. After you you get success for Revert Lockdownd to Stock, deactivate iPhone in SAM.
    6. Only then connect phone to your computer which has itunes open.
    7. This will activate your phone and sync if necessary.
    8. Then I installed ultrasn0w, which reboots the phones soon after installation is through.
    9. Phone will reboot and you will get a message on screen "iPhone is activated"

Will keep you guys updated on the battery life, if SAM helped not draining the battery quickly unlike with hactivated custom 4.1 firmware and unlock.

After installing SAM, activating from iTunes and installing ultrasn0w for unlock, everything was fine. I saw iPhone is activated when phone rebooted.

Later, I installed "stayopened" app from cydia and it wasn't working properly, so I did a hard reset (home+power), when the iPhone booted up and I saw "invalid sim" , not sure why. But when I checked the status of SAM it still said "WildCardActivated" and "OK". I tried selecting from "auto" to "country name and carrier" it didnt work. I uninstalled ultrasn0w and installed back and it recognized the carrier automatically.

Now, I am not sure if the SAM module is working or not. The status is still "WildCardActivated" in SAM.

Here are few observations with one day of SAM:

    1. Battery: definitely doesn't drain like it was before, doesn't drain out when you are doing nothing/standby, overall good.
    2. When you switch off iPhone by holding power butting and then slide to switch off, and restart with power button everything comes back up fine. Your SIM gets detected, network gets detected everything is fine.
    3. When you do a hard reset (home+power button till screen goes black) and boot back the device, iPhone says INVALID SIM and it doesnt go searching the network (I think this is a bug in SAM, not sure who/how to report it). Here you will have to uninstall/install Ultrasn0w. I didnt try to fiddle with SAM again, but just uninstalled and installed back ultrasn0w and everything comes back up fine. Even SAM seems working after this coz battery doesnt drain (its normal) and the status in SAM says "WildCardActivated" and "OK"

Thanks for testing and providing positive feedback on this tool. I've seen a lot of complaints that it doesn't work (mostly I think by people who haven't understood / followed the instructions properly). It's good to see someone say that it (mostly) worked for them.
