    Unfortunately, the baseband on your phone is not currently capable of being unlocked with ultrasn0w without upgrading to the iPad baseband (06.15.00), which will cause you to lose GPS functionality and will also make it so that you must restore using custom firmware for every restore in the future. It's not something we recommend unless you absolutely must have an unlock.

    @n1ckn4m3,
    He's running baseband 05.16.05 so ultrasn0w 1.2.5 will NOT work on that.
    That 3GS is serial 88925xxx, year 2009 week 25 .... so only way to unlock is ipad BB which will break GPS ... :-(.
    I avoid ipad BB ...

    The thing is, this is my mother's phone and she doesn't need a GPS. If somehow we can return it back in the future, if it is not irreversble, i can try this out... Or... how long do you think i should wait for an unlock for my baseband?
    I will do with ipad BB using redsnow, won't i...
    Thanks..

    Do you think downgrading to 4.3 will solve the problem? And any comments to my latest question below?

    It is NOT reversible. There is NO way to undo it. We can't be any more clear. Sherif Hashim has already stated that he feels he has an unlock for the later iPhone 3GS/4 basebands that will be included in ultrasn0w 1.3, but there's no way to tell.

    Correct, you would use either redsn0w or PwnageTool to flash the iPad baseband to the phone -- but I can't stress enough that we absolutely do not recommend this unless you must. You can't undo it, it will cause you to have to do a custom restore to every iOS revision in the future, and Apple will know immediately if they look at the device that it has been hacked, and will void the warranty. It's really only recommended if your life depends on your phone being unlocked. Anything less than that and the problems outweigh the benefit in most people's opinion.

    I think you did not install iPad baseband. Make sure you do it. You can do it while selecting "Install Cydia" in Redsn0w. I had similar problem which I fixed after installing iPad baseband. Even if its installed already, just re-install again.
    Hope it helps.
