I haven't jailbreak my 3gs (3.01) by now, but I want to do later.
Now Itunes is asking me, if I want to install the carrier settings update.
Is it safe to do so or do may I lose the abillity to jailbreak and unlock it.

Dont think you should
IF you wanna jailbreak, don't update things like that. It can "brick" your iPhone if you do something wrong

yes it is safe... carrier settings is not a problem, this has been confirmed by the dev-team
just dont upgrade to 3.1 if you want an unlock

Just one comment on that: A carrier bundle update will not break the status of your iPhone but may break Tethering - if you enabled it before.
