[need help] Failing to Ultrasn0w a 3G

Im restoring a friends 3G phone from DFU for the 3rd time, previous two times I restored>redsn0wed>ultrasn0wed and using my iphone 2G sim card I was able to make a call and then the 3G went into no service mode.

Im in Argentina using Claro. Just in case I disabled 3G as suggested by some, but still no dice. Tried resetting network settings and none, still no service.

First I tought the phone could be blacklisted, but if that were the case I would be unable to make a single call.

Am I missing something obvious? 3rd restore is about to finish. What should I do? Thanks in advance

FYI: Unlocked all my friends and friends of friends 2G phones, I know most the details and Im up to date regarding DevT, Geo, etc news, this is the first time an iphone is driving me crazy.

after 3rd DFU restore I still no service. If I go to settings>network and select Claro Argentina (my sim card provider) a popup appears and it says:

Restricted Network
Your selected cellular network is restricted. You can choose a different network in Settings.

Ideas? :confused:

weird thing, it briefly saw service and I was able to send a sms and place a call, removed sim and inserted it back and service is gone. I put the sim in my 2G phone and it works as usual, but it does not send the imei to the service provider as when I use this sim at another phone.

still lost :(

for lack of a better definition I can say that ultrasn0w does not "glue" / "stick" / you name it to this iphone 3G.

I made a video, you can see that it gets signal briefly then it goes to no service, then I remove the sim and put it back in my 2G and works fine, remove it and back to the 3G it goes, it briefly sees signal and then poof, its gone again.

When I have signal with the 3G phone I can use the phone, send sms with no problems. The minute I remove the sim, restart the phone or go back&forth to airplane mode, no service again...

Tried restarting, going back and forth to airplane mode, respringing, changing providers, enabling/disabling 3G, and no joy...

What can be wrong?

[edit1] after the video I turned it off and when I restarted it got stuck at the apple. Had to go to DFU mode, detect it with itunes, disconect cable and restart and its up again

Hi Peu, I was going to post a thread just about you've SAID. I'm also having "NO SERVICE / NO SIM" problems after using Ultrasn0w.

I'm using "VIVO" Brazilian carrier, it in fact gets singals (both; E and 3G) but it has been VERY instable, it goes from "NO SIM/NO SIGNAL" to half signal bars, to full signal bars randomly. It could take 10 minutes or 5 hours to lose signal, I've restores>jailbroken>ultrasn0wed several times and the same thing everytime!

Please, devteam, we all know you've been doing a GREAT job, but please, 3G unlock isn't 100% done, please take a further look at this instability issues.

I also observed that sometimes, when I manage to get carrier signal, if I turn on/off iPhone by pressing sleep button for couple times, I may (not everytime) lose signal and get a "NO SIM" message.

Please, let me know if I can help with any other details, I really appreciate to have a full solution and be happy like everybody else! =)

well it seems we are not alone, still can't make it work properly. Mine is 16gb 3G white

My Cydia was working fine but after I installed bossprefs, I guess it mess it up, and Cydia would crash even before shows up, so I decided to give a full DFU restore plus redsnow jailbreak and ultrasnow unlock. All went fine, but I'm already 10 minutes trying to get signal, still haven't get a signal not even once, "No SIM" all the time. =(

in my case I just tried with another company sim card and I can't make it work after a fresh restore from dfu>redsn0w>ultrasn0w its not even recognized as a sim, only when I insert my Claro simcard it sends the new imei message.
I'm lost with this one, a friend of mine is bringing me from usa his old 3G and I hope it will be my new phone after ultrasn0wing it, but after these problems Im beginning to worry, I already paid for it...

Sent a twitter about this thread to Musclenerd, let's hope he (or someone else) can shed some light into this matter.

I have the same problem- the iPhone will pick up T-Mobile USA's signal and when I turned off the phone and turned it back on it also lost the signal and said "NO SIM".
