Locked 3g, (3.1.3 ) Resell or Hold ?

Hi,

Yesterday i won an ebay auction for a an Iphone 3g locked to AT&T network. The firmware of the phone is 3.1.3 and am not sure about the BL. The phone will be shipped to me without the AT&T sim .

Unfortunately, within a couple of hours of winning the auction and searching the net (including Hackint0sh) for ways to unlock the 3.1.3 , i found that it is not possible to unlock the phone with more recent BL ( > 5. 08)

I have a couple of questions

1) Since i dont have a mac and this is my first time with an apple product , should i wait for sometime until the new unlock software gets released from the iphone-dev team or should i sell the phone on ebay ?

2) Will i be needing the original AT&T sim to unlock the phone or will my vodafone sim work ?

3) I know this question has been answered before ,What if the BL on the phone is 6.0x ? Can i downgrade it using Fuzzyband/Cydia ? ( I guess the answer to this one is No, but please confirm)

Your call. Looks to be anywhere from about one to two months before the unlock is released. New hardware comes out in 2 weeks, team will kick into high gear after the initial wave to get the hardware under the microscope. There are already existing exploits around but none have been turned into 100% fully working unlocks for 4.0 OS or the latest baseband. If it were me and I needed a phone, I'd re-sell the phone and try and get one with the right OS and baseband on it that I wanted, but YMMV.

In 99% of cases you will not need the original SIM card. If you use 3.1.3 with a previous baseband and jailbreak using the Spirit jailbreak, you will need a legit SIM -- but that's thoroughly not recommended for users who rely on an unlock (the Spirit jailbreak that is)

For the smartass answer, if you knew it was answered before, why didn't you search for it? O:)

That said, if the BL is the new BL, you cannot downgrade the baseband short of removing it and reflashing with the right equipment. (e.g., not something most people can handle unless you have some heavy duty EE experience.)
