How to upgrade baseband.
Hi,
It's all reverse here. i WANT to update my old 1.59.00 baseband.
I have a factory unlocked iphone 4 with a 01.59.00 baseband (i used to believe it was not factory unlocked, so i was always updating ios versions using tinyumbrella, fooling itunes apple check ).
Unfortunatly i cannot update my baseband anymore. I am stuck to 1.59.00 whatever i do (upgrade or restore) from itunes. I also get the infamous "1013 error" that never lets me..that never lets me upgrade properly.. i must jailbreak using redsnow just after the 1013 error in order to complete the upgrade progress... So now i have a up to date version (4.3.2) but with an old baseband 1.59.00. How can i force a baseband update ? anyone ? thanks in advance

Firstly. only perform the following procedure if you are 100% sure you are "factory unlocked".
If you are unsure, aviegas posted a while back the steps to verify that you are "factory unlocked" without requiring a restore (and reversible if you have Open SSH installed)
Run TinyUmbrella, go to advanced tab, untick the "set hosts to Cydia on exit" option.
Click Apply
Close TinyUmbrella
Try to restore/update via iTunes to 4.3.2 again, you should not get this error.

Thanks a lot Olethros. It worked like a charm !
i've searched that step by step guide from aviegas but couldnt find it..so i took the risk and followed your exact instructions (unchecking that tinyumbrella set hosts to Cydia on exit') . I still can't believe TinyUmbrella was operating in my system (modifying /etc/hosts or sometin' i guess) althought not running...
i now have a 4.10.01 baseband factory unlocked and YES i finally got rid of my low quality signal reception !!
To all of you who think upgrading the baseband is of no importance... you are wrong.
Again, thanks a lot.
SOLVED.
