5 hours trying to unlock my phone and still no luck... No Service

I've got a phone that was originally locked to O2 UK I'm presuming. I actually brought it from Emirates and now I live in New Zealand Vodafone NZ...

I've had yellowsn0w working fine for 2.2. But when i upgraded to 3.0 I can't get ultrasn0w to work... I just get the "No Service". Tried so many methods on the net with no luck.

Basically the steps i did were:

1. Restore to 3.0 in itunes
2. Jailbreak with redsn0w
3. Install ultrasn0w from cydia
4. Restart phone

When the phone first starts it shows No Sim then after few seconds it shows 1 signal but no carrier name... Then it goes searching for a minute or two and ends up with "No Service"

Tried resetting network settings etc. and no luck. Its really been frustrating me...

My baseban is at 04.26.08

Also before yellowsn0w use to give me troubles, I had to keep restarting and reinserting the sim till it randomly works...

Can anyone please lead me in the right direction?

I had the same problem but i fixed it, restore again (Shift + Restore) but this time remove your SIM unlock and jailbreak using Redsn0w and add ultrasnow with your SIM out and your phone should be in flight mode when you're done, insert your SIM and then go to settings and reset all settings reboot and you should have service on your iPhone.

It worked for me.

ok so take out sim.. ill DFU restore just incase i heard thats working for some.... and try all over again without sim and flightmode turned on b4 installing ultrasn0w

crap, it didnt work...

i took simcard out, DFU'd. Restored. Closed itunes when it was rebooting. then redsn0wed... once it got jailbroken i put airplane mode, removed autolock... went cydia downloaded ultrasn0w. put simcard in then reset all settings

it rebooted... it said no service.. then no simcard.. then no service again like b4

I unlocked one of my friends iphone 3g 8gb black and was discovering some problems like the ones you have. He is on T-Mobile USA and he was experiencing the same No Service problem. I figured out the problem and it was his sim card. Apparently, his sim card chip(the gold square thingy on the back of the sim card) appeared to be slimmer than that of my brother's sim card. The unlock was done perfectly and there was no fault in the iphone but it was the sim card design that was not letting my friend use his sim card. I tried my sim card also(same design as my friends) and it did not work but my brothers did. I find it a bit strange but maybe this can shed some light on your problem.

I don't know if that's the case because it was working with yellowsn0w (took ages to get it working tho)... It seems normal but I will try another SIM tomorrow.

i had the same problem last night. my carrier is Tmobile USA. last night after playing around with cydia my phone freeze and i power it off and power it back on but there is no service. i can see only 1 bar of singnal and Wifi connection but i cannot see any service carrier. i did turn on and off flight mode but no luck. i did a new restore and jailbreak again and unlock with ultrasn0w but still noluck. all the sudden, i power it off and power it back on. it does work. Hope this would help!

Ultrasn0w 0.9 fixed the no serivce! I love u dev-team
