Hi, I have on me a 3GS with 5.0.1 and 6.15.00 BB.
Now it's jailbroken and i've installed ultrasn0w 1.2.5. after reboot any simcard other that T-mobile UK causes the No service to appear. I've checked the about and under network it shows the correct network for the inserted sim, but it just doesn't want to get passed the no service problem. I tried reflashing the iPad baseband onto it, but it still didn't help.
any ideas and tips would be appreciated.

What version of redsn0w did you use to jailbreak? If you used redsn0w 0.9.10b1 this can be expected, there was a problem with launchctld. You can either re-jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.10b3 or you can install the 'Corona 5.0.1 Untether' package from Cydia, then reboot the phone, and that should resolve the ultrasn0w issue you're having. Beyond that, you probably already knew this but just to make sure, since T-Mobile uses different 3G frequencies than other 3G carriers, you need to disable 3G under the Settings.app in order for T-Mobile service to work.
Beyond that, it's worth mention that if your alternate carrier relies on a hacked/unsigned .IPCC, you'll need to use Wortel's commcenterclassic patch in order for it to function on iOS 5.0.1. Instructions for how to patch (or alternately, a repo with an already patched commcenterclassic) are available on the forums, just do a search.
thx for the reply, i used the 0.9.10b4 so i don't think that was the problem
this is the t-mobile uk so the 3g option doesn't effect it coz it uses the same band here, but again, that's not the issue. the phone works only with a t-mobile sim. which is weird since it was originally locked to o2. i tried using a O2 UK and Vodafone UK sim with it but those both result with the No service problem. i found online that this sometimes happens when the baseband get's bugged up so in redsnow i should chose the stock 5.0.1 fw and just run the jailbreak only with the flash iPad baseband. but i did this multiple times and it made no difference. i just want to make it work with an o2 sim.

Also, you're correct, jailbreaking with 0.9.10b4 will solve the launchctld issue, so that can't be the issue.
If you've already re-flashed the iPad baseband and installed ultrasn0w 1.2.5, I hate to say I do not know what else to tell you -- everything you've done should have resulted in an unlocked phone.
yeah it's really weird. all of the providers i try have their provider profile in the iPhone since they are all official carriers in the UK.
When I look under the general -> under carrier version i can see the provider name and version for all the sim cards that i try, and network states the carrier name as well. even on the main page of the settings.app under the wifi and location services, the carrier option shows the correct information. but the phone just states no service and doesn't allow calls to be made or received. but if i put the the t-mobile sim this problem doesn't happen. which really confuses me coz the phone was originally locked to o2 and now when trying to use it with an o2 sim it doesn't work :(
Do you get IMEI information in Settings when you look? Or is it blank? Worth mention that if it's a new 3GS, made after week 35 of year 2011 if it's 16GB/32GB, or made after week 28 of year 2011 if it's an 8GB, flashing the iPad baseband will brick the phone -- what are the 3rd, 4th, and 5th numbers of the iPhone's S/N?
Yeah, the IMEI shows up. it's a quite old 3GS, it has the new patched bootrom (3.2) but the 3rd, 4th and 5th digits are less than 135 ( i think it's like 097, can't remember and i don't have the phone with me ). also i think it's 16GB
Make sure under Settings -> General -> Profiles that there are no carrier profiles there stagnating from previous jailbreak and unlock attempts -- that can cause problems like this if your carrier required an .IPCC and it transferred during the upgrade. If there is a profile there, remove it. If the profile is required in order to get service on the carrier you're using, then you'll need to use wortel's commcenterclassic patch for 5.0.1 or else you'll keep getting no service.
