Practically, what is the risk of unlocking?
I have a corporate ATT blackberry with unlimited data plan and international roaming (GSM/WDCMA only). Normally I just call-forward to my personal iPhone (also ATT), but when I travel internationally I have to take the blackberry. Unfortunate, because the BB is a pile of crap.
If I unlock via ultrasnow, I assume there's no problem swapping sims. Jailbreaking alone won't let me swap sims (right?).
But, after reading the "reasons not to hack iPhone" thread, I have some reservations about taking an unlocked iPhone to a place like, say, China or Russia. Am I just being paranoid? How would a "malicious 3rd party" load some bad juju onto an unlocked iPhone remotely?
Thanks.

The only thing that could happen is that you would not be able to swap SIMS, because the last version of ultrasn0w doens't work with all phones (maybe the dev's are looking into this).
Other then this there's no problem.
An if you want you can install sbsettingstoggle for ultrasn0w and turn it off when with the official SIM.

Hacktivating and contract
I want to buy a new 3GS 16 gb but I dont want At&t because of the data plan. I want to use T mobile which i can use after unlock but then i cant cancel the contract or i gotta pay ETF. I want a new phone to unlock. How do I bypass contract or ETF or Data Plan. Is there a way to cancel the Data plan for a cheap price or free. I want the Ipohne with a plan for max. $50.00 a month or cheaper, Plus im selling my nano for a 100 bucks. And if there is a way to get the 3GS in 30 days WITHOUT returning the phone that would be great too .
Thanks to all.
