The reason I sugested RedSn0w was because I didn't realise you were using a Mac and pwnage rather than RedSn0w which would have jailbroken and hactivated without the hassle of creating a custom ipsw. RedSn0w is the replacement for quickpwn and is multiplatform, multi device and works with everything from the iPod touch to the 3GS on Mac, windows or Linux so most people use it these days. To tell thge truthe i had forgotten about pwnage on the Mac which, as you have worked out, still does a fine job.
