If your Iphone is a 3G. you must follow a 3G tutorial. at this moment we have just Pwnage Tool (MAC). for FW2.2.1 , Bootloader 5.9 and baseband:2.30.03
If you iPhone is runing Bootloader 5.8 you can downgrade it, and unlock via yellosn0w.
good luck

lydmr, you are linking to the 2G tutorial, but you have a 3G
you need this tutorial
iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone on OS 3.0 Using RedSn0w (Windows)
let us know if it solves your jailbreak problem
However, there is currently no 3G unlock at FW 3.0, why would you want to kill your phone service by just Jailbreaking?
The real solution to your problem is the as yet unavailable Ultrasnow
