now blackra1n'd 3.1.2
Well... the truth is, ultrasn0w unlock has not a 100% same behavior in every iPhone, and in fact, it was able to unlock almost all iPhones, someone from devTeam should be reading these kinds of feedback, if possible here, can anyone call them up attention here?
I was trying to find a somewhat "rebel sim" for 3.0 + 04.26.08 that really works so I can use it meanwhile devteam works on this ultrasnow issue, if anybody knows, let me know!
I almost want to say that perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the iPhones are the white, 16gb version? That's what I've got right now and ever since I had service for that one time block of 4 hours, I have not been able to get TMobile USA's service.
I don't think so, I've got a iPhone 3G 8GB black.
I am currently having the same issues. I bought an iPhone 3G in China and I accidentally upgraded it to 3.0 (it was 1.1 or something before). Prior to this upgrade it worked just fine with my Chinese Unicom SIM card, however after I upgraded and redsn0w'd and ultrasn0w'd, I kept randomly losing signal. When I pop my Canadian Rogers SIM card in, signal is still random but it seems stronger than my Chinese Unicom card.
Devteam please look into this fix. I've done my own debugging and tests and I believe the problem lies in the Baseband upgrade to 4.26.08. I came to this conclusion due to the fact that between 3.0, 2.2, 2.2.1 and 1.1 tests, the only major difference one that receives signal losses is the 3.0 OS and Baseband was most recently upgraded in 3.0.
I've got some good iPhone logs files that may be in fact important to people at devteam to take a look and I'm sure that they will know way faster than anyone else how to analyze and track down this issue. Please, how is the fast way to get in touch with them?? Email?? Or just irc?
You didn't read my post thoroughly- I said my phone (along with the ones that frequently seem to have problems with ultrasn0w) is the white 16gb version. As you said, yours is a the 8gb black which I have not seen nearly as many problems with here or elsewhere. Maybe it doesn't make a difference but just stating an observation.

I have a iphone 3g 16gb BLACK!
This is what I do:
1) Put White 16gb 3G iPhone in DFU mode
2) Shift Restore using iTunes
3) Close iTunes
4) Launch Redsn0w 0.72 and follow instructions
5) Disconnect iPhone, check if it restarts properly
6) Disable 3G just in case, set autolock to never
7) Set password for wireless network
8) Launch Cydia, let it do its things, select no filters, let it upgrade and add ultrasn0w repo
9) Install Ultrasn0w
10) Restart iPhone
11) Insert valid SIM, wait for found new imei and let it be sent to carrier
12) Restart iPhone
13) Does it get signal?
14) If no, swap back and forth with a properly unlocked phone (I use my iPhone 2G) let it send the new imei found to carrier in the unlocked phone
15) Put the simcard back to 3G iPhone
16) It should get signal (mine does)
17) Set and unset airplane mode or restart phone or reset network settings
18) Does it recover signal?
19) Mine doesn’t
20) Please Help
I can make a video using this procedure to show how it fails, but my previous video shows how the phone sees signal and then loses it.

Well I got mine to start working- turns out the SIM card was to blame.
