    Default Iphone 4 downgrade problem

    Hi techies,

I wonder if any of you can help me out. My iphone was Jailbroken on IOS 4.31 and it crashed recently and no matter what I tried I could not restore it to the same firmware I was using before so I was left with no choice but to go to the current IOS 5.01

If cydia was on my phone previously for many many months would my .shsh blobs files be saved on Cydia servers automatically? I have tried to downgrade my phone back to IOS 4 but each time I have failed miserably. I have tried adding the 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com to my windows hosts file and I can start the restore but after rebooting it fails and I have no choice but to go back to IOS 5.01 again as nothing else works.

Is there any way I can downgrade back to 4.31 or am I stuffed until they release a new Jailbreak?

    Thanks in advance,

    D.

Download TinyUmbrella, use it to retrieve any SHSH on file with Cydia. Let us know what SHSH you have. If you don't have any, you can't downgrade. If you do, you can downgrade to the versions you have SHSH saved for. Let us know and we can help.

Thank you for coming back to me with this. Okay I have run tiny umbrella and I think I have managed to save 2 files for 4.35 and for 4.33 here are the logs below. What do I do now?

2/05/2011 17:29:46.948 You have saved your iPhone4 4.3.5 (8L1) SHSH locally and the request was sent to CYDIA. This means that CYDIA DOES have your SHSH. Do NOT bug semaphore about the Cydia home page showing this version.

12/05/2011 17:29:49.625 You have saved your iPhone4 4.3.3 (8J2) SHSH locally and the request was sent to CYDIA. This means that CYDIA DOES have your SHSH. Do NOT bug semaphore about the Cydia home page showing this version.

Since you have iOS 4.3.3, go to iClarified (or Apple's site directly) and download the 4.3.3 firmware. Run TinyUmbrella and tell it to start TSS server. Make sure you have a backup from your iphone, then use iTunes to restore 4.3.3 while TinyUmbrella is running. The phone should restore to 4.3.3. You may need to use TinyUmbrella to kick the phone out of recovery mode when it is done.

You don't want 4.3.5 because 4.3.5 is a tethered jailbreak and not untethered.

Downloaded the 4.3.3 firmware for iphone 4 GSM. I tried what u said above but I got an unknown error has occurred (20). My phone was then in recovery mode and I had to use tinyumbrella to kick it out.

Must I enter DFU mode first to do the restore or? What about the .shsh files do I need to load these anywhere first or will tinyumbrella automatically use them when I restore using itunes to 4.3.3?

If you're downgrading, you will want to be in DFU mode to do the restore. TinyUmbrella takes care of everything so long as you've already used it to pull the SHSH (which you have). I neglected to mention that you needed to be in DFU -- that is the cause of the error 20. Either manually put the phone into DFU or use a tool like iReb to put it into DFU, then restore 4.3.3 while the TSS Server is running with Tiny Umbrella. You'll be good to go.

I did try the DFU mode yesterday after I left you this message and I still got the same error. Does it matter what baseband I am on as I am on the latest baseband 04.11.08?

I hate to say I'm not sure what to tell you -- you should only get an error 20 if you are attempting to restore a firmware that requires you to be in DFU to restore, and you're not in DFU mode. Make sure you're in DFU and not recovery or pwned DFU mode and try again. If that fails, click on the 'restore issues' link in my signature then post your most recent restore log per those instructions, we can then review and see. Admittedly though, in most cases the error 20 really is just a failure of the device to be in DFU mode. Did you use iReb to kick into DFU or did you do the power/home/10seconds?

Without the restore logs I don't have too much to go with. Error numbers are not usually enough to troubleshoot. Can you post one of the logs?
