You are fine. You should do the following.
- Restore to an official apple 3.0 or 3.0.1 firmware (NOT 3.1), then jailbreak with redsn0w and install ultrasn0w from cydia to unlock.
- Optionally after you have done step 1, use pwnagetool to make a pre-jailbroken 3.1 with activation enabled and baseband upgrade disabled. Restore to this and install ultrasn0w to enjoy the latest iPhone OS with unlock and jailbreak.
Note that it is perfectly safe (and required for ultrasn0w unlock) to upgrade your baseband to the version that comes with iPhone OS 3.0 and 3.0.1 (they have the same baseband).
The baseband in iPhone OS 3.1 can't be unlocked at the moment, which is why you should always use pwnagetool 3.1 to create a custom firmware to upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1

i live in dubai ni have an iphone imported from UK.
it was running 3.0 jailbroken tryed to find ultrasn0w or whatever snow .. couln't find it in cydia... thought i'd update to 3.1.2 and blackra1n it .. so i did update from itunes to 3.1.2 (baseband changed to 5.11.07) but found that there is no signal (itunes says sim is not supported) then i downloaded ultrasn0w .. nothing changed.
then downloaded a custom firmware 3.0 and installed it with the help of iReb 3.1.2 ... again downloaded ultrasnow but still no signal.
shall i try to download the original 3.0 from apple and redsn0w it then ultrasn0w it? ?????
Bootloader v 6.04 !
if not possible .... will the turbosim thing will work??????
thanks in advance.

Re: iphone 3g OTB bootloader 6.04 help
You are out of luck. There is no way back from this baseband for you. Also there is no ultrasn0w unlock for this baseband and little chance of one ever being developed.

What about the turbosim?

There has not been any updated proxy sim solutions (turbo sim, rebel sim) since before iPhone OS 3.0. Why bother with hardware solutions when ultrasn0w worked so well for almost everybody?
I would guess that with the large userbase of accidental upgrades (and now new purchases) there will probably be more effort put into trying to release a new proxy sim solution.

No it won't (for 99% of people)
The 3GS restricts restores of older OS versions. Search for SHSH and The Firmware Umbrella for more details. Please try to avoid randomly hijacking threads.
