Default Howto: restore iPhone 3G, 3GS running 6.15.00 BB

    A) if u used pwnage tool then u ll have to create a /new/ custom 4.1 or 4.2.1 and say /no/ when u are offered the BB update to 6.15.00 since u already have it, then build the custom ipsw and restore to that
    B) if u r using redsn0w, then:
B-1) if u are currently on 4.1, then u can restore to official 4.1 again, and when u see error 1015 pop-up, u kick ur device out of recovery using umbrella, use redsn0w and /don't/ check "ipad BB update" because u already have that
B-2) if u are currently on 4.2.1 then u ll have to restore back to 4.1 (because 4.2.1 will not allow u to kick the phone out of recovery when 1015 occurs due to the silly BB / iOS mismatch check added there) , then do the same steps as B-1, if u want to go again to 4.2.1 your only way is to use a custom 4.2.1 done by pwnage tool in the same steps mentioned in A

n.b of course saved shsh for the 4.1 ipsw is an important prerequisite for iphone 3gs to restore back to that
NOTE: Where 4.2.1 is mentioned, it is implied that this to applies to iOS 4.2.1 and higher

NOTE 2: The process is slightly different for iOS 5.0 devices as you will need to use Pwned DFU mode in order to successfully restore the firmware without the baseband.

    A) Run redsn0w 0.9.10b5 or newer and choose Extras, and choose 'Custom IPSW', allowing it to make the .IPSW with no baseband.
    B) Under Extras, clicked "Pwned DFU" which will put the phone into a Pwned DFU mode allowing you to restore the custom firmware.
    C) In iTunes, shift-restore and point to the custom firmware you created. The phone should update and reboot. If you experience the -1015, use TinyUmbrella to kick the device out of recovery mode

    Question Require help, urgently

A week back! I have updated my iPhone 3Gs from iTunes to the latest ios 4.2.1 & jailbreak by redsnow(B4), which installed the cydia, the i unlocked the network problem which i was getting through ultrasnow & changed my baseband by redsnow(B5).

Somehow my phone wasn't working that good and was consuming alot of battery.

So now i thought to restore my phone to 4.0.1 version and the iPhone would run smoothly again.

I downloaded the 4.0.1 restore ipsw and shift clicked the restore button on iTunes to select it. I had the 1015 & other error on the mid end of the process, but that was expected according to my reading. After that, when nothing turned up. so I tried to go back to 4.2.1. Received the 1015 error again, but I thought it was expected. But by now the iPhone was stuck in recovery mode. All I see on my iPhone's screen is the iTunes logo with the iPhone cable trying to connect on it.

Tiny Umbrella will get me out of Recovery screen, but it takes me right to the centered apple screen and after ~10-15 seconds I get back into recovery mode. It's an infinite loop recovery mode.

I suspect the problem is that I tried to jump from version to version while having the 06.15.xx BB and now I'm stuck.

Any restore I try to do returns me a 1015 error. If I try to JB anyway with the latest ipsw and redsn0w it stucks on "Installing Activation Bundles". I

Now from last 2 days my iPhone is stuck into recovery mode, nothing is working out & i request someone to help me out with it, would be a great job.

    Cheers

The recommended solutions for this are to either try setting up the phone as new instead of "restore from iTunes backup" or to use http://www.hackint0sh.org/f204/194306.htm to activate legitimately.

Have you tried TinyUmbrella to exit recovery mode after restoring 4.0.1 (or preferably 4.1)? The way you wrote your reply suggested you only tried TinyUmbrella to exit recovery mode after restore to 4.2.1 (which doesn't work - as is explained in the first thread)

Additionally, there are two screens that have a "connect to iTunes" picture, one has "slide for emergency" at the bottom, this is NOT recovery mode. Tools that exit recovery mode will not work to get past this screen.

When you are describing what didn't work, please state the version of iOS you have tried to restore and the tools you are using including versions. The description you have given here doesn't clearly explain this.

For example, you refer to redsn0w as latest (what version?) and latest IPSW (I assume you mean IPSW 4.2.1) - the IPSW needs to be a 3GS IPSW not the iPad IPSW. Also, you need to use an IPSW that matches the iOS version you have restored: for example if you restore iOS 4.1 you need to supply redsn0w with a 4.1 IPSW.

Redsn0w doesn't support jailbreaking the 3GS on iOS 4.0.x at all

    Use iOS 4.1

I hope this is on the right thread:

I have an iphone which I tried to jailbreak and unlock for someone, but the thing keeps giving me issues. I got the phone stuck on activation screen after the owner tried to update it to 4.2.1, I then attempted to downgrade it to ios 4.1 with an custom firmware instead of using the official firmware, thus skipping a step, after that it got stuck in DFU mode, I cant get it up with an official firmware restore, not 4.1 or 4.2, it keeps going back to dfu mode, It looks like it successfully restores the firmware, but it dont work, I tried cooking a second custom firmware with sn0wbreeze, cant get that to load, did the pwnd dfu mode, dont work. After I do the redsn0w thing, it goes stuck on the installing activation bundles, then in the middle of the screen that circle thingy keeps turning, then after awhile it just goes back to dfu mode. If I select boto tetherd, it boots with the pineapple logo, but just as it shows me the home screen, the screen goes black and shows the spinning white circle, then just drops back into dfu mode.

I have tried another suggestion of removing the logic board from the battery, I left it like that open through the night, I reassembled it this morning, after that I ran tuny umbrela to do the firmware restore, I tried 4.2.1, but I didnt enter the phone into pwned dfu mode, the firmware didnt take, it only through up an 1600 error.

The Errors I have gotten is: 1600, 1601, 1510 (Something like this), 1536.

Any furhter advice will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hardus

I sincerely doubt it based on the scant details you have provided. Lets first get some more accurate information about your problem

You have not mentioned what model you have 3G, 3GS or iPhone 4
There was mention of need to unlock, and an accidental update to 4.2.1
Also, you mentioned sn0wbreeze - which we don't recommend here and refuse to support. Use pwnagetool/redsn0w - these work.

Finally, no restore logs were provided. Please ensure you don't include the whole log in a reply here. Use a paste site as explained in the following link! http://www.hackint0sh.org/f137/130802.htm

The error numbers you quoted weren't much help.

    Hi,

still in the middle of things, which are totally unsorted..

*I got an iPhone 3Gs with old bootroom.
*Recently i have upgrade my phone to 4.2.1 & unlocked it with redsn0w_win_0.9.6b4 & later changed the baseband to 06.15.00 by using redsn0w_win_0.9.6b5.
    * refer: Unlock iPhone 3GS, 3G Baseband 05.14.02 Using Ultrasn0w 1.2
*Some how my phone wasn't working that great. i didn't liked. (well it doesn't means i was getting any sort of bugs, my phone was working perfectly fine but i thought i should restore it back)
*I was trying to restore my phone but was unable to do so.
*I have tired all the fundamental ways to restore it but i'm unable to do so.
*likely i have tried - tinyumbrella-4.21.01, iRecoveryWin32, iREB-4.0.x-4.1-RC2 well after doing all this, i come back to the same situation, Recovery mode. itunes logo underneath is wire.

Hope this time i'm more clear and someone can help me up, so that my phone can work again.

    cheers

Read the first post in this thread. ON 4.2.1 the only way is via custom IPSW - made with pwnagetool(mac only app)

If you downgrade to iOS 4.1 you can restore with stock IPSW and use tiny umbrella to exit recovery mode.

However this technique simply will not work when restoring iOS4.2.1

We do not recommend or support iREB here on this forum

Have you also updated baseband to 6.15?

If so you obviously haven't done your research properly. I hope you have a SHSH for 4.1 backed up.

If you aren't running the iPad 6.15 baseband, then I'd need more details (restore logs) - http://www.hackint0sh.org/f137/130802.htm
