    Default 1015 recovery loop

    hi,
    I'd really need your help.
I have a 3gs of my little bro who tried to jailbrak my old device.

So here the facts what he did - as far as he can remember.

    1) upgrade my itunes to 10.1.1 (arghhh)
    2) updating the 3gs 3.1.2 to 4.1.2 through itunes.
    3) using redsn0w(mac_0.9.6b6) to jailbreak and unlock.
    4) jailbreak successful; unlock via ultrasnow --> unlock not successful
    5) tried again; clicked "install ipad baseband"
    6) not succesful.

Now he came to me; seems he tried it often meanwhile but doesn't know what to do.
I tried now to get original 4.1.2 on it via itunes and redsnow; without success.
downloaded tinyumbrella; here I am only able to exit recovery mode,... but it seems the phone has probs with booting and turns into dfu again.

I can't tell you now what fw is actually on the phone, or what bootloader as I didn't manage to get any os on it.
however I know that i clicked on make my life easier in cydia when i used it.

please try to help; as my brother is really annoying about this.
    thank you very much.

The information you need is mostly here in this thread (I have merged your post into this thread you referred to)

Two vitally important details nearly every 3GS owner posting here fails to mention:

    1. Old or new bootrom 3GS
    2. Do you have a SHSH for iOS 4.1 saved for your device?

You can use TinyUmbrella to determine what SHSH you have saved for your device.
Bootrom - The iPhone Wiki explains how to check bootrom.

Plus: do you have a mac or access to one? There are no windows based solutions for your type of problem.
I've determined that my 3GS has:

    1. A old bootrom
    2. No SHSH for IOS 4.1 saved for my iphone ( I take it this had to bedone before I upgraded, no way I can get it back or download a SHSH IOS 4.1 for my 3GS right?)

I have access to mac, but with not having a SHSH for IOS 4.1 is there anything I can still do or try?

If I'm really stuck now will it help to give my iphone in at a Apple store to fix it or is it beyond repair now?

Thank you for all your help

    Appreciate it

You needed to request a 4.1 SHSH before (approx) 2 December 2010 - that was when Apple stopped signing 4.1
Old bootrom gives you a little more options.
There is an "unofficial" 4.2.1 bundle that needs to be installed into pwnagetool 4.1.3 and then used to build an IPSW which prevents baseband update (which is what causes your error) on iOS 4.2.1 for 3GS/old bootrom only.
Then you need to jailbreak with redsn0w (specify old bootrom) and unlock with ultrasn0w.

    Try that.

Have read many posts on this problem but i have a 3gs iphone on 4.2.1 using the ipad baseband 6.15.00. I unlocked this using ultrasnow and JB with redsnow not the latest version.

All was fine untill i downloaded something from Cydia and the phone restarted and will not turn back on.

I have tried the normal IPSW and also the Custom IPSW file to Restore.
I cannot get this phone to Restore and have even tried a Mac to do this without success.
Every time i get a different error in itunes cannot remember them all but there is a list and i have got majority of those errors.
    Would also like to add
Is my phone fully bricked? Will it ever be able to Restore ? Anyone else have problem like this?
Also would like to add i did not save my SSH Blogs so that is a major problem

Thanks heaps any info would help

Read the first post in this thread. Then read it again until you understand it (because you have either never read this or you don't yet understand it)

Lack of SHSH is a significant problem, especially if you have a new bootrom 3GS (yet another vital piece of information you have nt supplied us with)

Restore logs and the specific errors you have encountered will help us tell ou what you are doing wrong. My guess is that you have a new bootrom 3GS without any SHSH saved. I also think you are trying to restore custom IPSW designed for an old bootrom 3GS.

To summarise, you aren't helping yourself or us with your approach of spamming multiple threads/direct messages with the same useless message that showed you haven't actually read the threads you are posting in.

Default iPhone 3G (MB046LL) stuck in recovery mode. All restore techniques failing halfway.

    Summary:
    iPhone 3G (Model MB046LL)
    Originally on iOS 4.2.1
    Originally on baseband 05.15...(04?)
Jailbroken successfully once using PwnageTool on 1/22/2011. Unconfirmed whether SHSH blobs exist.

    The tl;dr version:
I believe I'm stuck in recovery mode on my iPhone 3G (Model MB046LL), with the iTunes logo and USB graphic below. Whenever I connect to iTunes, it also tells me I'm in recovery mode.

No matter what I do - restore the normal way in iTunes, or restore from a custom IPSW file - halfway through the restore attempt, the phone reboots itself and iTunes throws an error message with error 1015, saying that the phone could not be restored.

My intention is to get this phone working again, jailbroken or not.

    Full version:
    How I got here:

1.) First, I successfully jailbroke the phone using the instructions here:
iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak and Unlock Your iPhone 3G Using PwnageTool (Mac) [4.2.1]

The phone was originally on iOS 4.2.1 with the 05.15 baseband.

In step 6, the page instructions say, "During this process you can update your baseband to the 06.15 version. If you are on 05.14 or 05.15 or higher you will need to do this to unlock." I chose "Yes" hesitantly, since I was on 05.15 but wanted the unlock.

I made it to the end with Cydia on the screen and the phone usable. It was sluggish with multitasking enabled though, so instead of diving into the plist file, I decided to start this process over from scratch. At that point, I was stuck at error 1015 in iTunes.

2.) So I tried to get out of this by following the instructions here:
iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak and Unlock Your iPhone 3G Using RedSn0w (Mac) [4.2.1]

I used redsn0w 0.9.6rc8, as linked from the tutorial, but it always fails on "Installing Activation Bundles" and reboots back to the iTunes logo screen. The first time around, I checked the iPad firmware option. The second time, I did not. The outcome was the same in both cases.

This phone has never been jailbroken before, so there are no SHSH blobs (unless that very first successful jailbreak automatically created one for me). But remember, I was going from 4.2.1 to 4.2.1 again.

Again, all I want to do is to have this phone operational again, even if not jailbroken. I'm open to ideas. Thanks for reading all the way through!

    Good evening,

Thank you for all your help so far, Iím excited to try out this solution.
There is a few things I just want to make sure before I try this as I dont want to revisit my friend countless times with problems I should have solved before asking to borrow his Mac.

Firstly, I did download PwnageTool 4.1.3 aswell as the Bundle pack provided in this link
iClarified - iPhone - How to Add a Firmware Bundle to PwnageTool . This guide only shows you how to add the bundle to Pwnagetool. Iíve searched for a tutorial to see what to do next but didnít find anything useful. Havenít run the program yet so Iím not sure what I must presicely do with pwnagetools after Iíve added the bundle and it has detected my Iphone.

Secondly, I downloaded redsn0w and found a tutorial to Jailbreak your 3GS iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak and Unlock Your iPhone 3GS Using RedSn0w (Mac) [4.2.1]
I dont see where I can specify old bootrom in the tutorial, is there maybe a older version I need to get or should I just proceed without specifiying that I have a old bootrom.

Lastly, Looking at the ultrasn0w tutorial UltraSn0w : iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock the iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G Using UltraSn0w for unlocking it seems as if you need internet to perform the unlocking process, they didn't mention it at all that you need to be connected to the internet but I just want to make sure that I dont need to be connected through my PC or through a wireless connection.

Thank you for all the help and I hope I will stop asking questions soon

    Thanks again!

This is how I got out of this situation, for anyone else who runs into the same problem in the future.

I suspect that the iPad firmware being used for the unlocking part of the jailbreak process for iOS 4.2.1 was causing the servers to think that the OS on the phone was actually newer than 4.2.1, which would be a problem seeing that 4.2.1 is the most current OS at this time of writing (and iOS 4.3 is rumored to be the first iOS 4.x version to exclude the iPhone 3G and 2nd gen iPod touch).

Using PwnageTool, I created a custom IPSW while saying "no" when asked about the baseband update. This is consistent with the tips here:

Restore iPhone 3G(S) While On Baseband 06.15.00 [How To] - iFans - iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch Fans forums

After creating the custom IPSW, I restored from that IPSW file, and it was a successful process. Good luck to everyone!
