Have merged your post with the existing thread related to this. You should really search before posting.

There is no definite solution to your problem - you need a 4.1 SHSH and you don't have one - it's now too late to get one.

The only idea that I have (as - yet untested) -

Use this technique Mostly iPhone hacking: Data recovery: not just for iBoot-pwned devices to make a 4.2.1 IPSW that upgrades instead of restore.

Then restore to that. The check that is causing you problems is ONLY in the restore ramdisk.

Then you can use tiny umbrella to exit recovery mode.

Hello Olethros. I have recently acquired an iPhone 3GS which is activated, but still locked to AT&T. It is running stock 4.2.1 OS and 5.15.04 firmware. I've read the dev-team blog and this forum and understand (I think) the risks of the current method of jailbreaking and unlocking my phone's configuration. Before I embark, I have a couple other questions:

    1. Have there been any developments in the investigation why GPS functionality is sometimes lost when people upgrade to the 6.15 baseband? How prevalent is this issue?
    2. I've read where you suggest using OS 4.1 for this unlock. Is there a specific stability reason for this? The other directions (like those posted on iClarified) indicate OS 4.2.1 is used.
    3. If OS 4.1 should be used, can I restore to a stock 4.1 version since the phone is still running a stock 4.2.1 OS? I have IPSWs for each.

Thanks in advance for your insight. Take care.

    Hi guys,
I came right from the post 'Iphone lock on apple loop after jailbreak 4.2.1' since it redirect to this one.
I read the whole thread but nothing seems to really work for me since i do not encounter these problem.

My iPhone is a 3GS old bootroom, i tried to Jailbroke it to 4.2.1 using Redsn0w, updating the bb to 6.15
The whole process went fine apart from the fact that i got stuck on the apple loop when i restarted.
I tried many things such as downgrading to 4.1 stock AND custom AND 4.2.1 stock AND custom in DFU, recovery etc.. but iTune just keep saying that the iphone isn't eligible for restore.
I do not get any number errors or perhpas the only one i got once was 1604.
I went thru the redsn0w process with 4.2.1 and 4.1 and they go thru the whole thing without issue but it send me to 'connect to itune' at the end.
Whatever i do, i do not get the numbers error so i can not go thru the tinyUmbrella stuff (although i tried anyway and get back to the same point)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks a lot!

1.The above mentioned things all happened to me also ,,or can say even worst .I have 3Gs was working good with 4.1+5.14.2 but wanted to unlock so went for 4.2.1+6.15.0 with redsnow9.6b5.
2.same happened after update it gave me normal bootup but my cydia became white icon and safari was crashing so I tried to install cydia to jailbreak or get my cydia icon alive so that I can proceed for unlock, after this it hung in recovery mode for long, tried all mentioned tool 10 times, iREB, iRecovery but got nothing 1015,3094 errors while restoring through itunes then I downloaded one custom 4.2.1 from piratebay and gave one more try to restore and its !!AMAZING!! restoration completed and itune says keep iphone connected while it reboots but BADLUCK again its recognizing it in recovery mode and asking me to do restore which I have done already ,,,what to do next ????

    please help

Hi I've read the threads but still having a problem.

    I have a 3GS on 4.1 / 05.14.02.

I restored to 4.2.1 and then I used RedSn0w 0.9.6b to upgrade my BB to 6.15. Everything worked fine (should have stopped there) as inserting a vodafone sim worked fine (it was an O2) but decided to restore to factory - hoping to wipe off data as I've upgraded to iphone 4 and wanting to give my 3GS to my son.

My phone is now stuck in recovery mode (picture of iTunes and USB cable).

I have tried downgrading to 4.1 but this just errors with 3194 error. Same with 4.2.1

I'm a bit lost now. I'd really appreciated some pointers and what I can try next.

For what its worth my new iPhone 4 is a sim free from Apple and therefore does not need hacking! - maybe thats the future??

    Thanks for any help offered.

    Simon

GPS does not work with 06.15.00 baseband on your 3g/3gs because the ipad uses a different GPS chipset.
Hopefully something good will come out of this. :-)

4.2.1 on new bootrom devices will be a tethered boot.
Hence it is better to stay on 4.1 at this time.
    3. If OS 4.1 should be used, can I restore to a stock 4.1 version since the phone is still running a stock 4.2.1 OS? I have IPSWs for each.

you need to have 4.1 SHSH for any kind of restore.

you are screwed at this time.
    - you will not be able to restore to 4.1 without an SHSH.
    - you will not be able to restore to 4.2.1 stock bacause of the 06.15.00 baseband

    - your ONLY option now is to create a custom firmware 4.2.1 with pwnagetool and restore the custom firmware to your phone while apple is still signing 4.2.1. pwnagetool is a mac application. If you don't have a mac, you need to find someone with one to help with custom firmware creation.

    - if you have 4.1 shsh then of course you can restore with stock or custom firmware 4.1

Just to note: 3GS 4.2.1 pwnagetool custom IPSW is for old bootrom only. It is also considered an unofficial (ie not as extensively tested) release. (source: musclenerd on twitter)
