Default Help iPhone 3g 4.2.1 unlock

    Hi,
I have read lots of stuff on the web before I started to try to unlock my iPhone 3G. I was already very comfortable with jailbreaking ipod touch and iphones so I thought it would not be that hard to unlock the phone.

The iPhone 3G is running version 4.2.1, I jailbreaked using RedSn0w, (I upgraded my baseband to 6.15.00 and installed Cydia). Then, I installed ultrasn0w and restarted. No matter how many reboots I do, how many times I put my SIM card in and out or if I enable or disable 3G and or Roaming Data, it doesn't work... I always get "No Service" + sometimes the following message pops: "Your Selected Cellular netowrk is no longer available. You can choose a different network in Settings."

I'm just so desperate now, I don't know what to do. I live in Canada, and I'm trying to unlock my Rogers iPhone for it to work with my previous Android (Bell Mobility) SIM card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...I have been trying to fix this for almost 2 weeks now, I'm starting to lose hope
    Thank you

Does your IMEI # show up in settings and does WiFi still work? You may just have a bad baseband flash. Also, how did you activate the device? Did you hacktivate with redsn0w or did you use SAM to activate?

Yes, my IMEI shows up. As for the activation, I have tried to hacktivate with redsn0w and to use SAM. As of right now, it is hacktivated with redsn0w.

Edit: Oh and the Wifi turns on and off every 5 seconds...

Sounds like a bad flash -- I would re-flash the 06.15 baseband and see if that stabilizes the device's performance for you.

To reflash I simply have to use redsn0w and "Flash ipad baseband" again? If yes, I have already tried that, but I'll just try again to make sure...

Correct. If you've done it already, it probably won't have any impact. Make sure you're using the latest version of ultrasn0w as well. I'm worried about the WiFi toggling -- it's not a normal issue that people have with 06.15 and I've only really heard of it in issues where the baseband itself is dying

I have to use the latest version of redsn0w? I have been using version redsn0w_win_0.9.6b5 and redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc16 since the newest version didn't work with my iPhone 3g 4.2.1 (I am re-flashing right now, I'll post when it's done)

Nope, as you noted, only certain versions are capable of re-flashing the iPad baseband, etc. You should have no problem using the versions you listed.

Oh I read to fast, you said latest version of ultrasn0w, I thought you were talking about redsn0w, my bad. Yes I'm using ultrasn0w 1.2.5. I just reflashed and I am still getting No Service

It's weird...I turn off 3g, and when I go in my carriers' list, I see "Bell". I select it, after a few seconds a check mark appears, but no network signal or anything. If I turn 3G on, I see both "Bell" and "Bell(3G)" in my networks' list and I can't connect to "Bell 3G" but I can still connect to "Bell". However, after about 60 seconds, I always get a "Network Lost" message...

Hate to say you've stumped me -- I really don't know what else to tell you. I believe that Bell's 2G/EDGE is not the same as AT&T's, so you will only be able to use the phone on 3G -- I also see several other people after doing a quick google search with the same problem saying that enabling 3G and disabling EDGE allows them to get data service. I see you've toggled 3G -- have you disabled EDGE data entirely using either SBSettings / Cellular Data toggle?
