I've been out of the game for a bit with some of the older phone solutions and have a question.

I have a friend who bought a used 3g from a friend and accidentally restored it to the newest version of software (4.1 I'm assuming) using iTunes.

Now the phone is locked and she wants to use it on US T-Mobile. How can I Hacktivate/Jailbreak/Unlock it.

I don't need a step by step or anything, just point me in the direction of which tools (eg Pwnage, Ultrasn0w, etc) to use. And, is it even possible, at the current time to unlock whatever baseband the phone would have from a fresh 4.1 restore??

Jailbreak is not a problem most tools have been updated to jailbreak and hacktivate (redsn0w 0.9.6b2 or PwnageTool 4.1.2 or greenpois0n)

Unlock is your problem. ultrasn0w does not (yet) work with 05.14.02 (baseband that ships with 4.1)

Your only chance is fuzzyband - less than 1% of very old 3G iPhones can downgrade baseband via fuzzyband.

Other than that, simply wait. Ultrasn0w will be updated before the end of November (if all goes according to plan/expectations)

ok I just did a downgrade of 4.1 that actually worked.

A friend had a 3G that was upgraded to 4.1 I used tiny umbrella to get the shsh files fortunatly I was able to get all the shsh for this phone from 4.0 on up. I have had 5 other 3g's in the last 2 months and all had ALL of thier shsh via Tiny Umbrella and Cydia. in the case of the upgraded phone I used tiny umbrella to restore to 4.0 then I just redsn0wed and ultrasn0wed and all was well.

not sure how many 3G's have all of thier shsh blobs on cydia but I have not run into one that has not. so my suggestion is use tiny umbrella see what you can come up with and go from there.
