Default Fix "THE SIM CARD DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE SUPPORTED" problem

    Important Trouble Shooting. Update 06-08-2010

Fix the "THE SIM CARD INSERTED IN THIS IPHONE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE SUPPORTED" problem

itunes have made some changes to block unlocking of iphones on 06th august 2010, and will lockdown the iphone to use only original sim even if jailbroken and unlocked via jailbreakme and ultrasn0w.

If you dont have one already get an activation sim from iPhone Activation Sim Card

remember, the activation sim is only to activate and get you past the "slide for emergency" and give "slide to unlock"

we have uploaded a full guide to our servers, you will find it at http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/simhelp.zip

this help file will show you how to activate it, jailbreak and unlock, it pays special attention to the problem created by itunes update today that is blocking access to the phone even when unlocked.

    This is absolute GENIUS!
Have just spent the whole day wondering why I keep getting a "Different SIM...bla bla" message and then a "The sim card is not supported..." message, despite having followed all the instructions re jailbreakme and ultrasnow. Then I just followed all the steps in the "simhelp" package and BINGO! Couldnt believe my eyes...thanks a million fonefunshop!!

    Hi there,

Sorry for asking stupid questions as I am totally new to jailbreaking/ unlocking iphone. My iphone 4 was activated in July when I bought it. I now want to only unlock it as I want to use it aboard using local sim.

Is it right that I can only unlock the phone after I jailbreak it?
As you mentioned, after 06/08/2010 the itune has changed the setting so that it would lockdown the iphone to use only original sim even if jailbroken and unlocked via jailbreakme and ultrasnow. since my iphone 4 was activated in july, do I still have to go through the process that you suggested above or is this something that I could do without?

Thanks for replying. really appreciate your help.

The easy and proper way is here : http://www.hackint0sh.org/f236/156762-3.htm#post600647

    1) Activate with Phonebook card
    2) Jailbreakme.com
    3) Install Hacktivation Patch from source http://cydia.pushfix.info/
    4) Install ultrasn0w
    5) Replace phonebook SIM with your carrier SIM

    Done

I'm curious about this too. If you legitimately activated with an official carrier (I did on launch day), then jailbreak and unlock, will you still have this issue if you put another sim card in? Or is it only for people that did the bypass activation method with a phonebook sim?

My understanding is that it is limited to those who used phonebook SIM or other SIMs that use a test ICCID who activated in August 2010 or later.

The phonebook SIM approach worked for a short while after the launch of iOS 4 then Apple changed the logic used to generate the activation token they return to the iPhone. Confirmation of what Apple had changed came via twitter on the 6th of August - I think that Apple made the change about a week earlier than this (based on reports we saw of people having problems with activation).

I have a issue with my iphone 4, every time i insert a new providers sim card it goes into the itunes emergency mode and then i nned to connect to itunes to activate it. It is unlocked though.

once it gets activated , it works fine.

Now when i took my phone out of the country , other country sim card shows

"the sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported".

    Please help
