what one does it say?? awaiting activation, restricted network, or no service? All would be a different fix!

what did you use to unlock it? rensn0w then ultrasn0w? did you get any errors when you tried after a restore?

finally, how did your brother get it? Apple store or 2nd hand? it could be that the imei has been reported and its been blocked.

Where are you using it now? I am not aware of US phones imei's being blocked in other countries

Here is the deal:
He bought it first hand from an ATT store.
The phone is on 3.0.1, then redsn0w, then ultrasn0w. I have done this process with the ATT Sim, then tried with the Argentina's SIM, and then without any sim at all.
At first, I get waiting for activation. Then, it shows either no signal bars or no service. Then when I manually select my carrier, it says restricted network. Strange thing is that the phone has been working fine for a couple of months. As I said, I am going crazy!

If you do use UltraSn0w then you have to be so careful. Because if it handled in a wrong way then it may be worse. I have upgraded my firmware and it is running smooth.

how is that gary? i mean, i am on 3.0.1, wiith redsn0w and baseband 4.26.08. I have run ultrasn0w a dozen times (each after a clean restore) and cannot fix this!!

HI, i'm just a newbie, but i got solution for this ( no service after ultrasn0w unlock)

this is step by step:
1. after install ultrasn0w, turn off 3G and reboot, and insert simcard
2. don't press OK or just leave it if have warning "no simcard inserted"
3. wait for "no service" and turn on airplane mode
4. take off simcard, n insert simcard again
5. turn off airplane mode
and ur service will be back

I have also same problem "Searching after ultrasn0w" 3G white 16G Version 3.0 (7A341) Firmware 05.11.07.

So for the guys who they have Firmware 05.08 Downgrade by using Fuzzyband , and every thing will be fine.

Also for the guys who want's to upgrade DO NOT DO that now untill Dev-team find new Ultrasn0w.

I saw that there had a been an update of the PwnageTool (3.1.3) so borrowed a Mac from a friend and followed the iClarified tutorial.

After doing this with the ipsw iPhone1,2_3.1_7C144_Restore, which was downloaded from the following this site, I installed ultrasn0w using the usual instructions and my iPhone 3G is working as a phone again.

Ok this is going to sound crazy,But here is what worked for me. my iphone is on 3.0 4.26 Tmobile USA. I jailbroke (redsnow) and then unlock with Ultrasn0w, I had the "NO SIGNAL" "SEARCHING" "NO SIM"...etc blah blah blah. After several restores and a couple of hours,I removed Ultrasn0W through Cydia and decided to sell the iphone as locked.The next day I turned on the phone inserted my Tmobile Sim and boom it picked up. Till this day If you go into Cydia you will see that Ultrasn0W is not installed,But my phone does work on Tmobile. BTW my iphone is a ATT phone not purchased factory unlocked.

I don't what I did, But it works on Tmobile and I honestly thought I had a broken iPhone on my hands.

I also have the "No Service" issue after Ultrasn0w. I'm wondering now if it's a hardware issue.
